Book Description

May 4 2010
Some bonds can never be broken...Addie Downs and Valerie Adler will be best friends forever. That's what Addie believes after Valerie moves across the street when they're both nine years old. But in the wake of betrayal during their teenage years, Val is swept into the popular crowd, while mousy, sullen Addie becomes her school's scapegoat. Flash-forward fifteen years. Valerie Adler has found a measure of fame and fortune working as the weathergirl at the local TV station. Addie Downs lives alone in her parents' house in their small hometown of La Prairie, Illinois, caring for a troubled brother and trying to meet Prince Charming on the Internet. She's just returned from Bad Date #6, when she opens her door to find her long-gone best friend standing there, with a terrified look on her face and blood on the sleeve of her coat. "Something horrible has happened," Val tells Addie, "and you're the only one who can help." Best Friends Forever is a grand, hilarious, edge-of-your-seat adventure; a story about betrayal and loyalty, family history and small-town secrets. It's about living through tragedy, finding love where you least expect it, and the ties that keep best friends together.

4.0 out of 5 stars good light read Aug 17 2009
Format:Hardcover
I love Jennifer Weiner's books! This one is not her best book but it is very entertaining. It drags a little in the beginning but picks up towards the middle/end. If this is your first Jennifer Weiner book I'd recommend "little earthquakes" or "good in bed" which are better stories.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible Mar 30 2011
By Theresa
Format:Paperback
This is the first book I read from this author and I couldn't even finish it. I made it just past half way and was done. I read it because a friend loves this author and she said this book was "good". Typically I don't like bashing books but this one was dreadful. It was so unrealistic, which, if a book is supposed to be sci-fi or horror, ok, but this isn't. ****Spoiler Alert**** I finally had enough when they were/weren't going to rob a bank and what happened in that incident. Really? Cause I know, if I run over somebody, I'm first going to go to an old friend who doesn't like me anymore, then take her on the lam, then sort of rob a bank and get away with it, all in a matter of 24 hours. Come on. And the main character is supposed to be intelligent, but she just goes along with it. And, she is lonely, internet dating, down on her luck in love meeting losers, and then wow, all of a sudden, the cop (who couldn't have babies with his ex wife) falls instantly in love with her. Let me guess, the ending had them together and she was pregnant? So predictable. Oh, and after the three thousandth time it was stated that she was "so fat", I couldn't take it anymore. Ya, she was fat, got that the first hundred times it was stated. Dreadful. Terrible. Don't bother, save your money and time. There are way better books out there!

3.0 out of 5 stars Stretches credibility Dec 30 2011
Format:Paperback
This was the first Jennifer Weiner book I've read so had no point of comparison with her other books. It was an entertaining read but really demands that you suspend disbelief as you read along. The plot turns were entertaining but simply incredible. Would classify this as a chick lit "beach book."
