Disappointing, no new info vs. website Oct. 11 2009
By Penacious H - Published on Amazon.com

When we looked for colleges for my oldest 3 yrs ago, the Princeton Review website was invaluable; so we bought their book, "The Best Northeastern Colleges, 2010 edition", expecting deeper insight vs. the website.

I found that the info in the book appears to DUPLICATE the website, with no new substantive info added...easier to handle because of not needing to click, but each two page listing (per college) consists of lots of repeat info (ie, file the FAFSA as early as possible...--duh!) and no deeper content.

Use the website, but do not bother with the book!

OH MY GOSH Incredibly thorough with LOTS of insider info Dec 14 2010

This book provides a GREAT summary of each school reviewed, and is a perfect addition to all the books you need to narrow down this important process.
DONT try to think you can get away with just one reference book though - they ALL design them with limited info so that you need to buy multiple book. This book is a great addition to the mix.
Good Guide That Includes Items Often Overlooked Aug. 28 2006
By Lynn Ellingwood - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I liked this guide because it focused on particular regions of the country -the Northeast, and because it surveyed students on campus life. There are particular colleges that I am looking at for one of my former students and this guide is a good way for me to know more about them and for him to read also. We are in the Rochester, NY area so we focused on that area. I found out that SUNY Geneseo, my former alma mater, is still heavily focused on alcohol as it was when I went to school. A very disappointing factor for me. I was a non-drinker and life could be hell around drinkers, that is something I need to tell my student, a non-drinker. Brockport has some advantages but Nazareth College is looking more and more attractive. I liked the high interest ratings the professors got and the 95% rating of campus life, without being a drinking college. I can't wait to share this guide with my former student so he can get more information on colleges.

If you live in the Northeastern US, or want to attend college there, then this is the book you should buy first. It offers the best of the best public & private colleges in that area. Granted, it doesn't contain all colleges in the area, but most of them. The book includes the best from Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. As someone who wants to attend college in one of these states, I feel that this book gave me valuable insight on some of the colleges that I have interest in. (On a side note, it should be known that private colleges outnumber the public, which makes sense, after all it is the
"Best".

Lacked something? Not excited over this purchase.
I was able to benefit somewhat (alittle) from the contents.
