Book Description

May 10 2011 Best Women's Travel Writing
Women have been writing about the world for generations but until 2005 never had a book been published that celebrated the best women's travel writing. This is the seventh volume in the series that was long-awaited by readers of women's travel literature. Since publishing the original edition of "A Woman's World in 1995", "Travelers' Tales" has been the recognised leader in women's travel literature, and with the launch of the annual series "The Best Travel Writing" in 2004, the obvious next step was an annual collection of the best women's travel writing of the year. This title is the seventh in an annual series - "The Best Women's Travel Writing" - that presents stimulating, inspiring, and uplifting adventures from women who have traveled to the ends of the earth to discover new places, peoples, and facets of themselves. The common threads connecting these stories are a woman's perspective and fresh, compelling storytelling to make the reader laugh, weep, wish she were there, or be glad she wasn't. The points of view and perspectives are global, and themes are as eclectic as in all of our books, including stories that encompass spiritual growth, hilarity and misadventure, high adventure, romance, solo journeys, stories of service to humanity, family travel, and encounters with exotic cuisine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and touching tales from the road May 26 2011
By Kimberley Lovato - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I've always a lover of travel and a lover of a good story, and this collection of 30+ tales from women writers around the world braids the two together into a sometimes humorous sometimes poignant anthology. From editor Lavinia Spaulding's introduction recounting of when she first identified herself as a a traveler, I was hooked. The stories left me searching my own travel memories as well as yearning to book my next trip. An excellent and compelling collection to take with you on your next journey or to enjoy bedside.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Book Club Read! Aug 20 2011

I chose this book for our August Book Club and everyone LOVED it. We all agreed that the stories were inspiring, thought provoking, emotional (several made us tear up), funny and insightful. Some stories spoke to everything that was good in human nature while others tugged at our heart strings. The flow of the stories was like a good play list - just the right mix! Everyone agreed that it made us all want to go back out and travel some more in the short weeks we had left of the summer. A wonderful read!
