Beyonce's I AM...WORLD TOUR captures concert footage from numerous shows edited into one extraordinary concert. The entire tour consisted 108 shows, 78 cities, 32 countries, 6 continents and 1.1 million fans. Amazing feat!
Video: 1080p 1.78:1. The picture was pleasing with great details and gorgeous colours. Blacks are inky black. I do have mixed feelings about the various footage (not in HD) weaved into the concert, which gave the whole picture an uneven look. But they did give us a glimpse into Beyonce behind the scene. Love to see her without heavy make-up...like the girl next door, quite different from her vibrant image on stage. I must complement the guy in charge of the fan that blew on Beyonce's long curly hair during the concert...she definitely looked more artistic and beautiful with blowing hair. (4.5/5)
Audio: Initially, I was disappointed to find that there was no DTS-HD Master Audio. Instead, you have the choice of Dolby Digital 5.1 and PCM (uncompressed) 5.1 surround (48kHz/24bits). I chose the PCM 5.1 with excellent results. The dialogue, singing and the music were well recorded with deep bass. The result simply rocked the house. Fantastic sound (5/5)
The Contents. If you are looking for a lot of Destiny's Child's songs, you will be disappointed...there were only three: No No No (included in a medley), Bootylicious and Say My Name. Beyonce already has three full albums under her belt. The rest of the songs were spread among these albums:
From Dangerously In Love:
Crazy In Love, featuring Jay-Z; Naughty Girl; Baby Boy
From B Day:
Freakum Dress; Get Me Bodied; Irreplaceable; Upgrade U
From I Am...Sasha Fierce:
Smash Into You; Ave Maria; Broken-Hearted Girl; If I Were A Boy/You Oughta Know;Diva; Radio; Ego, featuring Kanye West; Hello; Video Phone; Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It); Halo
Of course she also sang Listen from the movie Dreamgirls. Etta James would approve Beyonce's version of At Last.
Beyonce was in top form. Her voice was pure with extremely wide range. Her dancing of course was mesmerizing. I always wondered how she could dance so well with 3-4 inch high heels. She did admit during the show that at one point, there were blisters on her feet. Her solution was to wear soft cotton white socks. Her control of the atmosphere and audience was first class and purely professional. During one of her songs, she serenaded to the crowd in the front row. At one point, she was singing directly to a bald-headed guy while she gently massaged his polished bald head. I am sure that guy was the envy of the whole world, and felt that he was in heaven. In Ave Maria, she appeared in a pure white dress...singing with such feelings and honesty...like a goddess from heaven.
Indeed, Beyonce has matured on her own rights and shed most of her images as Destiny's Child. She reminded me of a young Mariah Carey-Shakira-wild Tina Turner in one outfit. She has no problem with all the high notes. Of course, it was nice to see "Mr. Beyonce - Jay-Z" during Crazy In Love. Kanye West also appeared briefly in Ego. The climax of the show was in the final song Halo. Wow, could she ever control the audience! She also cleverly used this opportunity to pay tribute to Michael Jackson. The ending was truly touching...the title of the tour was called I Am...Tour. She ended the show with these words...the real complete title of the tour was I Am...YOURS!!! Wooo, how sweet!
Overall, this was an excellent blu ray concert disc. Beyonce is indeed a multi-faceted icon, and was the director of this disc. She has the talents and charisma to belt out any song, with great feelings. Of course, her all-girl backup band was excellent too. The guitarist, Bibi McGill, blasted out a fantastic riff that reminded me of Jimi Hendrix...The concert was only 99 minutes long, but it was totally enjoyable from beginning to end. I usually prefer studio recordings, but in the case of Beyonce, there is nothing better than to see her live - her voice and body in action as one. What a treat. Highly recommended. A Must-Own for all music lovers (5/5)
