Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

With the Bible's various prophecies of the downfall of Babylon, one would think Christian eschatologists would have a field day with the war in Iraq. But apart from a few perfunctory prophetic exegeses-Jeremiah's "arrows of expert warriors" are laser-guided bombs, the "plunderers of the North" are looters at Iraq's National Museum, Isaiah's "chariot of men with horses" is an Abrams tank-this poorly organized, fundamentalist screed touts the Bible less as a crystal ball than as a rationale for a Wolfowitzian grand strategy against the Muslim world. On the temporal plane, Evans argues that the U. S. should use its control of Iraqi oil to break OPEC, and employ Iraq as a base ("only a short reach from the throat of Syria and Iran") for the war on terrorism. On the spiritual plane, because Islam is "a religion conceived in the pit of hell" and terrorism is orchestrated by demons, he advocates the use of Christian prayers summoning angelic intervention to root out the evils of terror and Islamic fanaticism. Evans, founder of the Jerusalem Prayer Team ministry and author of Why Christians Should Support Israel, is especially concerned with the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. He opposes Bush's "road map" initiative and insists that God apportioned the West Bank and Gaza to the Jews of the land of Israel, whose modern consolidation is a prerequisite for the Second Coming. Evans's one-sided account of Middle East conflicts, based on fancifully symbolic readings of obscure Bible passages, concedes virtually no legitimate grievances or non-demonically inspired motivations to Muslims and Palestinians. His book is a disturbing addition to the debate on these critical areas of U. S. foreign policy. Photos.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sleight of hand..., July 16 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Beyond Iraq: The Next Move: Ancient Prophecy and Modern Day Conspiracy Collide (Paperback)
...while the people are spellbound by the magician, his assistant is picking their pockets.

Ask yourself: Who stands to gain if the world can be convinced that God's peace should not at long last be established between Israel and the Palestinians? Could it be radical Muslims, whose very sense of self precludes all interaction with a Jew?

Who has repeatedly sabotaged peace negotiations by spitting at cease-fire agreements and sending suicide bombers to blow up buses in Israel, timed perfectly with families' return from worship, thus blowing apart innocent little children?

Whose ideology glorifies the violence and abhors the very idea of peace with...Jews??

How curious that this old Arab viewpoint has been phrased (by a talented literary mouthpiece for masked killers, disguised as one who honors the Christ). Hordes of the most dyed-in-the-wool "Christians" now chant the praises of this wily tract, chanting the dirge of destruction while claiming to follow the Prince of Peace...

If you fell for his smiling effacement of the PLO and others whose philosophies fill the rest of the book, you've been dangerously fooled. If you think this book was written to help Israel or the world, your gullible innocence has been taken from you.

Somebody once said, "You cannot serve both God and man." Instead of clutching "Beyond Iraq" before shutting your eyes at night, try reading a red-letter edition of the New Testament and see what Jesus believed about war and peace.

1.0 out of 5 stars "Beyond Iraq-The Next Move" is a vain hope, Jun 30 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Beyond Iraq: The Next Move: Ancient Prophecy and Modern Day Conspiracy Collide (Paperback)
This book is typical of the shallow self-centered Christianity today. The first part of the book has no depth, but outlines an extremely basic understanding of Israel in the last days. The second half of the book is nothing more than a vain hope that it will not happen in the author's lifetime. The goal of so many prayer warriors is typical of last day "Christians" that are lovers of self, rather than lovers of God. In short, this book is worthless. Find something that will challenge you about the message of the cross. I recommend Hating for Jesus, (John 12:25) by Timothy Williams - if you can stomach the true message of the cross.
