The cover caught my eye with its incredible colours and textures, and I couldn't pass it up! I've been carrying it in my yarnbag all summer and showing it to every yarncrafter I know. There are so many cool motifs to play with to construct blankets or even just yarnbomb the town in. It's spiral-bound so it lays flat while you read and stitch, the patterns are written out in easy, common terms as well as graphic chart, and the pictures are in gorgeous, full colour. There are patterns for all skill levels here, though none of them look too daunting if you are familiar with the basic stitches. This cover alone, worthy of hours of admiration, makes me smile every time I look at it. I highly recommend this book to my fellow hookers!

I was pleasantly surprised with the excellent tips and tricks the author gave for making your crochet look perfect. I am a beginner at crochet but found the instructions quite complete and easy to follow. There are 144 motif patterns that can be used to make just about anything you can imagine. Perhaps the only thing I would want in this excellent book is a bit more instruction on how to join the motifs that didn't have straight sides. An example of a blanket or something similar using one or more of the differently-shaped motifs would have been a good way to demonstrate. I would recommend this book to a beginner who wants to practice more than just granny squares. I would also definitely recommend this book to someone who's skill is beyond beginner.

Lots of variety in the motifs and some intro pictures of stitches (step by step) to get you started. Explains the logic/rules of certain shapes (e.g., rules for stepping up each layer of a round) that are helpful with branching of to your own designs.

Nicely laid out, and I'm getting a lot of use out of it. I really like the spiral spine, it helps when one is sitting in a chair and doesn't have a lot of room around them. :) It's a bright and helpful text book for those who crochet.

I'm a beginner who learned to crochet by watching youtube vids on granny squares. I was looking for a book with small projects so I could learn how to read patterns and try new techniques. So long as you're patient and pay attention to detail, this book was great for this type of self-teaching, with details written patterns and charts to also follow along with as well. The many different styles and shapes in the book make the learning interesting and many are also quite beautiful. I particularly enjoy the hexagon projects and can't wait to try making an afghan with them! The only critique I have (which is why I didn't give it five stars) is that I didn't find the instructions as easy to follow as I'd like when learning a new stitch. I often referred to a different book with better instructions or watched a video demonstrating that particular stitch.
