Format: DVD
Released here in Australia under the more 'spiritual' title "Fixing the Shadow", this film, based on a true story, deals with an undercover cop (Sheen) who verges on the suicidal. His pain stems from the confrontation he had with his cop-step-father who abused him as a child.
Sheen, encountering an Apache, learns the tale of someone who 'lost their shadow.' Thus, as Sheen goes undercover, he must confront his fears in order to be restored whole.
You can bear this in mind, otherwise this would just be another biker film.

Charlie Sheen is excellent as Don Saxon, a displaced police officer trying to reconcile his good heart and need to do what's right with the fact that he murdered his abusive uncle when he was six years old. Saxon (Sheen) is haunted by his past. He is forced to come face to face with who he really is by assuming the alter ego of Sid, an undercover cop infiltrating drug and gun smuggling biker gangs. There are times when Saxon cannot distinguish bewteen Sid and himself. This immersion in Sid probably saves his life and enables his success in surviving the ruthless biker world and in gathering huge amounts of damaging evidence. Anyone who has had to resolve guilt and anger from their past, and who loves bikes and biker freedom will enjoy this true story and find a little of themselves in Sid/Saxon. Charlie Sheen's best movie since "Platoon", with strong support from Fiorentino and Madsen. The soudtrack leaves an indelible impression equal to that of the story itself. I enjoyed this movie very much and watch it over and over.

This is one of my favorite movies of all times. I refuse to loan the movie to other in fear of it not being returned. Charlie Sheen performance is one of his best ever. He portrays an undercover agent with the D/A's office who targets an outlaw motorcycle gang. Although it states the movie is fact based, I have been unsuccessful in locating any information on the actual event. If anyone has further info please contact me.
It is said that in the movie the real Daniel Saxon appears as an extra. I was informed that he is the deputy at the beginning of the movie who is the Sheriff's right hand man when Saxon (Sheen) is fired. He appears only a brief moment.
This movie is a must see !!! Those is law enforcement ie: narcotics and vice will be able to relate.

The first time I saw "Beyond The Law" I didn't pay enough attention to it to understand it so I didn't see what all the fuss was about. After I watched it a few more times while I was visiting my family in Texas, I realized why everybody was bragging about it all the time. Charlie Sheen is an undercover cop surveying a biker gang by becoming one of the crew and gaining the respect of even the leader of the bikers.
If you watch the movie and pay attention to the whole thing, you'll find out that this is a great all around movie in every respect. It has good suspense, action, and best of all great acting. It's one of Charlie Sheen's best movies, if not his best, and one of the best movies to own for anybody if you ask me.

As someone who was an extra in this movie it was a very well told story. Michael Madsen and Charlie Sheen were real nice and very into the movie. We shot scenes in scotsdale arizona in the desert. The original title of the movie was "CHASING THE SHADOW" which after viewing the movie would have made sence. As an abused child Charlie takes the law into his own hands and years later finds himself in the same situation. We know he was chasing a shadow from his past, but did he go beyond the law. Thats the great part about this movie they let you decide. I spent two years with my own live motorcycle show on harley-davidsons and can now appriciate the work that really goes into movies. Thanks for listening.

I originally borrowed this from a friend of mine who rides a Harley. I loved it so much that I immediately went out and bought both the movie and a cd from Chris Rea who does two of the music numbers (Road to Hell + Workin on it). It's great for so many reasons. It must have been hell to really be in that situation and Sheen plays it surprisingly well. Madsen plays an intelligent villian and Fiorentino is so attractive. The San Carlos Run part makes you want to run to a Harley dealership and throw down some cash. Well done all around and a must for anyone who thinks two wheels are better than four.

I had never seen this video before, then when I met my husband, he couldn't stop talking about it- he said he had to see it because it was so great. So we finally found it at the video store. I have to admit- Charlie Sheen is great as Sid in this movie. It is funny as much as serious. It is also sexy-being a woman I noticed this :-)! It is a deep, interesting movie. I couldn't even leave to go to the restroom it was so good. I would recommend this to all ages and types of people. It is a movie you will never forget. I got this movie for my husband for a Christmas gift.

Where to begin?? Whilst this film didn't get the press coverage of 'in' Charlie Sheen films it certainly makes up for with plot! Charlie plays a troubled cop who's sent into the biker underworld to bring organised crime. Based on a true story, Sheen gives a fantastic performance as a gangland style biker with everything Harley Davidson fans could ever need (including how to build one, my favourite bit of the film). Just show to show how easy it is to get anything you want in America!
