Building Block Quilts, Mar 27 2010
By Possum - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Big Book of Building Block Quilts (Paperback)
1. 3D deigns using the Super 60 special tool for cutting ease. 25 patterns for blocks and quilts in black 'n white and colour samples. A technical book for intermediate to advanced quilters.
2. Detailed cutting instructions at front of book with diagrams to make shapes, thus each pattern is concise with instructions in using the shapes to create the quilt only. Clear fabric cutting table and construction diagram, with directions for one size only.
3. Some will lend themselves to scrap fabrics, whereas others are enhanced with a more formal apporach to colour, value and shades.
4. There are no set-in seams and the methods are much easier than past construction techniques.
5. A good book for the quilter looking for inspiration and something different, especially with a 3D effect.
6. I may not have bought the book if I'd realised I would need a special tool to follow the instructions and this needs to be clearly indicated at point of sale.
4 stars.

Beautiful 3D quilts with no set-in seams!, Dec 9 2010
By Venita M. Doughty - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: ABC 3-D Tumbling Blocks... and More! (Paperback)
I bought a copy of this book just before taking a workshop from the author, Marci Baker. The quilts are beautiful, and much easier than using the traditional method. I made the first quilt, a Thankful Harvest, with a center of tumbling blocks set on a black background, so it looks like the blocks float. Marci is an excellent writer and an excellent teacher. I highly recommend her books and her classes. You will definitely need one of the clearview triangles to make the quilts in this book. The book includes a number of variations on tumbling blocks, and some other 3D designs as well. There are a lot of diagrams, and the directions are very clear. The author also includes quilting diagrams.
