4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book, Jun 10 2007
By NuJoi "Create with me" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Big Easy Cocktails: Jazzy Drinks and Savory Bites from New Orleans (Paperback)
I purchased this book for the drink recipes. The snacks are lagniappe. The introduction is well-written and provides insights into the city and some must-have bar info.

The drinks span the classics, even one form the late 19th century that I;d never heard of. There are new classics and sections for frozen and coffee drinks. The authors were nice enough to include some non-alcoholic beverages.

Use this book to round out your bar recipes or to make sure you're covered for any New Orleans themed party. There are some pictures, I'd prefer one for every drink.

I didn't expect anything new in this book since I grew up in New Orleans but was pleasantly surprised to find a number of new food and drink ideas. It's a fun read and a good source for good eats and drinks.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Stirring Book, Sep 3 2006
By Bill Marsano - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Big Easy Cocktails: Jazzy Drinks and Savory Bites from New Orleans (Paperback)
By Bill Marsano, This book will add to anyone's parties. "Big Easy Cocktails: Jazzy Drinks And Savory Bites from New Orleans," by Chef Jimmy Bannos and John Demers (Ten Speed Press). The first nice touch here is the fact that a portion of the book's proceeds will be donated to support Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. Chef Bannos is a veteran exporter of Crescent City culture. Having established four of his New Garland Coffee Shops in Chicago, he's now out to colonize your rec room. Which, with this collection of 50 cocktail recipes (with musical selections recommended for each one) and 35 appetizer recipes, he would seem to have a very good chance of doing. New Orleans has a longstanding cocktail tradition and the Creole and Cajun touches in his Savory Bites who like music on his palate as well as in the air.--Bill Marsano is an award-winning writer on wines and spirits.
