Really Big Fish,

This review is from: Big Fish Bilingual (DVD)
"Big Fish" is a really great example of Tim Burton's skill at film-making, putting to rest any suggestions that he can only make cartoons. Charming and visually rich it weaves the recounting of an adult life with fantastic possibilities. Both viewer and narrator wonder which is fact and which is fantasy even though it really doesn't matter in the end. A hearwarming story for all ages without the sort of schlock that we expect from feature films about families. Albert Finney, Danny DeVito,Jessica Lange, Steve Buscemi contribute to a brilliant cast. It is a movie that we have watched numerous times and still shed a happy tear at the end. The kids in our house say "It's a REALLY GREAT movie!"

Ripping off consumers 1 Blu-Ray at a time,

This review is from: Big Fish [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
The rating is not for the movie but the release. The movie is most excellent but this release sucks. I (like so many others) have been replacing a number of DVD's on Blu-Ray not only for the sound & vision, but to make room as blu-ray's take up less space. Today I received 4 DVD replacements on blu-ray & all 4 of them have nothing or almost nothing in additional features. It doesn't help that Amazon has almost no info listed on many blu-ray titles. For example my DVD of Big Fish has: Tim Burton audio commentary The character's journey Edward Bloom at large-Take a look at the larger-than-life world of Edward Bloom Amos at the circus-Danny DeVito takes us through the Callowway Circus Fathers and Sons-The cast and filmmakers share their thoughts on the Father and Son dynamic The filmmakers' path Tim Burton: Storyteller-A look at the director's process with great moments and insights on how Big Fish came to be A Fairytale World- The importance of fairytales and myths and how these elements were incorporated into Big Fish Creature Features-Explore the magic of Stan Winston studios The arthor's journey-Bringing "Big Fish" from the page to the screen. Authr Daniel Wallace and screenwriter John August discuss the origins and inspirations for Big Fish The finer points - A Tim Burton trivia quiz the Blu-Ray has: Tim Burton audio commentary a dozen on the DVD & 1 on the Blu-Ray, so (yet again) I'm forced to keep both formats. So much for freeing up space.
