This book is well written and the characters well developed. The action kept me on the edge and the relationship that builds between the two main characters was more than interesting. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sexy, suspenseful page-turner May 31 2012

This book hooks you at the first chapter and keeps you turning the pages until the end. The heroine is sharp as nails on the outside, but soft as butter on the inside. Her softness does not detract from the strength of character she has to overcome the demons from her past as well as meet the new demons from her future. She meets them head on. Our sexy hero (with the help of some other sexy heroes) learns from her what real strength entails--not just physically but mentally as well. The plot keeps you guessing who the bad guy is until the end and makes you so satisfied to see justice finally win out. I can't wait to read about the other "heroes" in this book--Brady and possibly Clint. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves sexy suspense. There were a few typos in the e-book, but nothing to detract from the story-line.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tayler Lee knows how to grab your attention... June 4 2012

...and grab it she does with this topic. As she wrote in her Afterword: many abused kids never recover. An excellent kung fu sensei (or karate sensei) can be one of the most influential people in a struggling young person's life ... and even in a struggling adult's life. I know this from being involved with an adult who has blossomed through her experience with karate. I am a fan of Taylor Lee's writings (loved The Grandmaster's Legacy trilogy), and look forward to reading more of her books.

The romance was steamy (as was expected), the villains depraved (also expected), and the really bad guy was just a bit of a surprise (I had a suspicion...more like the tingling on the back of my neck like Jake experienced). The depiction of Yuma, however, felt a bit off. We live five months a year there, and I had a hard time equating what I know of that nice city (99,000 people sans winter visitors) to Lee's depiction of a "dusty little town." However, literary license is par for the course and somewhat essential in writing fiction (to a certain extent).

Read it for the romance; read it for the mystery; read it for a good time on your Kindle. Whatever...just read it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Glad it was free Aug. 25 2012

I read the reviews for the book and figured since it was free I would try it out. I don't know what book everyone else read but it wasn't the same book I read. The premise is a good one but the character development was incomplete and really only hinted at. You never had to wonder who the characters where talking to because they constantly used the name of the person they were talking to. Who does that? I know Lexie is talking to Jake and I know Jake is talking to Lexie, they don't have to say there names every time. If I was playing a drinking game while reading this book I would have passed out and liked the book much more. There was a bit of continuity problem as well. In one scene Jake is holding Lexie's hands above her head and then it tells you that she puts her arms around his neck and pulls her close to him. Then it tells you that Jake lets go of her hands and puts them around his neck. I thought she already did that. And don't get me started on the punctuation problems. One sentence actually had a period and a question mark. So was the sentence a statement, a question, or both? The dialogue to me felt like it was written by a teenager instead of an adult. I finished the book but it was more out of curiosity to see what else would make me roll my eyes then the actual story itself. The writer did do a passable job of trying to make you think who the bad guy was so that when it was revealed you might have the wrong person. But again, even the bad guy was never really explained. Did he really have a family or was that just part of the cover story? Some writers go into too much detail, well in my opinion, this writer didn't give enough. Wouldn't read the next one even if it was free.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too many editorial mistakes! July 14 2012

This should have been a better book. It started off well but deteriorated with every page. The editing was nearly nonexistent, rendering a number of the sentences nonsensical. She used "rampant" I don't know how many times in two or three pages. "this thing from this thing" (location 2361) made a lot of sense too. I was interested in the mystery but found Lexie and Jake to be very undeveloped characters. We really don't know anything about Jake except his macho, which was overdeveloped. Lexie's background was not adequately explained. There was little reason behind most of her actions. She alternated between being a wimp and being a kick-a$$ fighter. I didn't get it. I skimmed most of the last 1/3 of the book because I was interested in the story, not in the characters. Not very good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book! June 1 2012

Really enjoyed this book. This book had everything you could want in a romance: an emotionally damaged yet competent woman, sexy men (yes, plural), and dangerous men in murderous plots. I really grew attached to Lexie right away and was immediately drooling over the gorgeous Colonel Jake Gardner. Worth the time and it was free. Nothing better than that.
