4.0 out of 5 stars Audio somewhat confusing, Mar 19 2012

This is a great collection for any fan of Billy Jack or of the later "westernized" martial-arts films it inspired, e.g., almost anything with Steven Seagal. "Trial of ..." is probably the grittiest of the set, as it was filmed not long after Kent State and deliberately parallels that and similar police/military aggressive incidents on university campuses.

One thing about the audio bothered me, and I don't know whether it was in the theatrical films or is a quirk of the remastering onto DVD ... I lent the set to an avid neighbor right after watching the films, so haven't yet heard any of the commentary tracks, perhaps it's explained there.

Any time Billy Jack visits his friends and family on the reservation, they (quite naturally) converse in their native tongue. English translation is provided, but unfortunately as a more or less simultaneous voice-over rather than as subtitles, which can be a little hard to follow at times. I suppose if you're a regular at the UN or in other similar multilingual environments, you quickly become used to this kind of translation, but I found it distracting.

5.0 out of 5 stars BILLY JACK KICKS BUTT!, Jun 24 2010

Thanks to Image Entertainment fans of Tom Laughlin can once again experience the world of "Billy Jack" in this incredible 4 disc boxed set. Image Entertainment states that all 4 films feature a new spectacular high-definition digital transfer for unsurpassed film quality! While the films have been cleaned up considerably for this DVD release, the transfers still suffer from little blemishes here and there but nothing to detract from the overall viewing experience. These new video transfers are better than any previous versions I've ever seen and the new 5.1 surround sound is a definite improvement in my opinion.

This fantastic 4 disc set from Image Entertainment is well done and any "Billy Jack" fan would be happy to own this set. The disc packaging is great. Each disc comes in a nicely decorated slim case with slip cover and disc artwork. Each film contains two Audio Commentaries from the filmmakers and I found them very informative.

What do you get when you mix half white/ half Indian and a pair of lethal feet for good measure; you get former Green Beret "Billy Jack" and his one man brand of justice. Ever since I first saw Tom Laughlin in "Born Losers" in the role he created I've been a fan of Billy Jack. Tom Laughlin fans can now rejoice "Billy Jack" is here to stay!

Film Breakdown:

Born Losers: A motorcycle gang harasses the residents of a small town and Billy Jack saves the day.

Billy Jack: Billy Jack is a karate expert who protects a school from a group of local bigots.

Trial of Billy Jack: The sequel to Billy Jack. Billy Jack is found guilty and sent to prison. Upon his release from prison he is forced to save the students of the school again.

Billy Jack Goes to Washington: Billy Jack gives Washington a taste of real Justice using his hands and feet. Things on the hill will never be the same.
