Drawing from the Macaulay Library at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, the book is divided into four parts: seabirds, shorebirds, and water birds; forest birds; woodland birds; and open-country birds. With each illustration is a description of the bird's range in the U.S and Canada and its ecology and behavior. The profiles emphasize the birds' vocalizations--both songs and calls--which can be heard on an audio component that comes with the book. By using this digital audio technology, readers will be able to relate the songs and calls to the birds' appearances. This book is very entertaining for the whole family. The songs of several local birds help identify them. Children find this book fascinating. A great addition to any library.

I bought this book in mid 2006. It's a great way to identify birds as many times you hear then but never see them. I have had fun near the feeder also using the bird calls, the recordings are excellent and well worth the investment.

Beautiful book, so much bigger than it looked on the web-page. Clear reproduction of the calls allows for identification of birds that don't get close.
