Black X-mas,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Black Christmas (Unrated Widescreen Edition) (DVD)
This movie really gets you into the spirit of christmas just like it can scare you and make you sink into your chair as you watch it. The characters are fun to watch and the movie is a bit scary when you watch it the first time.

this remake of the 1974 original,is quite different than itspredecessor.for one thing.it's much gorier and there are a couple pretty tasteless scenes, even for this genre.the kills are nothing spectacular, and even pedestrian(read:boring)at times there is lots of blood,if nothing else.one of the women in the sorority house(which most of the movie takes place)gets naked for a shower scene, but it's pretty lame.you won't get any long lingering shots, but you can tell this chick has one hot body(which is why she had the shower scene,of course)there is another huge difference between this film and the 1974 version.in the 1974 version, there is almost no back story.in this one there is,but too much.they give too much history of the nut job and what led to his psychotic behaviour.the movie tend to spend more time in the past than in the present.that didn't work for me.also, there gaps in logic, even for the genre.you will roll your eyes a few time in this one.this movie is nowhere near the worst movie i have seen, nor the wost horror movie, but i isn't great either.for me,Black Christmas(2006)is a 2/5

A 4 star transfer for this blu-ray release,

This review is from: Black Christmas [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
This is just a mini review of the Glen Morgan remake of Black Christmas. I'm just going to go over the vidoe, audio, and features portion. Not the movie itself.Video quality: I have the HD DVD version of Black Christmas from The Weinstein Company. Doing a comparison with that version with this new blu-ray version, it appears that both tranfers are identical, which is a good thing. Detail is good, colours are vibrant, blacks are solid, and the print is very clean (no dirt or scratches on the print). If anything, mild/soft grain pops up here and there, but really it's not a problem. If anything it adds to the tone of the movie's atmospehere. 4 outta 5 Audio quality: Like the video, the audio is great. It features both a dolby digital and a dolby TrueHD 5.1 audio track. Dialogue is very clear, bass is stable, and surround use is well done. 4 outta 5 Special features: 1) "What have you done?" - The remaking of Black Christmas (28 minutes long) 2) May all your Christmases be Black (27 minutes long) 3) Deleted Scenes (8 minutes long) 4) Alternate Endings (12 minutes long) The "making of features" with Glen Morgan's films are great and really well done. If you've seen the 'Willard' making of documentary before, then you know exactly what I'm talking about. They cover the entire production (make-up, screenplay, etc.) but it's a really good watch. All features are recomended for watching. What would've been nice would have been a commentary track with Glen Morgan too. Disc stats: -distributing studio: TVA Films -English 5.1 dolby digital; English 5.1 Dolby TrueHD -no subtitles -aspect ratio 16:9 (2.35:1) -run time: 91 minutes (the unrated HD DVD version ran 95 minutes but I didn't see any big diferences between the two) -region coding: on the back it just says region A
