This outlandish comic book of a movie stars newcomer Andy On as the genetically altered warrior played by Jet Li in the original Black Mask. As Zeus--the gigantic brain-in-a-vat that created Black Mask--sends his newest super-warrior to track Black Mask down, the nefarious owner of a professional wrestling network has a plan to genetically alter his wrestlers and turn them into animalistic half-humans--meanwhile, Black Mask falls in love with a beautiful geneticist who's paralyzed with phobic anxiety whenever a man touches her... None of the plot makes much sense, but sense is hardly the point. Though the computer-generated special effects are fairly crude, the relentless camera movement and rapid-fire editing of Hong Kong action master Tsui Hark (Peking Opera Blues, Time and Tide) and fight choreographer Yuen Wo Ping (The Matrix) keep the spectacle rolling along entertainingly. Also featuring Traci Lords as a kick-ass wrestling queen. --Bret Fetzer

5.0 out of 5 stars A great terrible film to watch. Jan 20 2004

If you love bad films, this one is a must. If you don't, don't bother reading this, just forget this film ever happened. Ok here is what happens; black mask dude doesn't like Goggle Guy. Goggle Guy doesn't like blask mask dude. They fight. People who couldn't make the grade for a WWC league appearance take hormone injections that make them into power-ranger monsters that fight black mask dude. Goggle guy is eventually defeated, after a great scene where he is hanging in the middle of a room by wires for god knows what reason. Surreal, bizarre, awful. Enjoy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing Dec 27 2003
By JL1984
Format:DVD
I suppose what made this movie such a let down was the fact that Jet Li made no return and there was nearly no return from any other character in the original cast. This movie is a cheesy knock-off of X-Men and while the director overly uses his computer generated effects in an attempt to accentuate the picture and make the movie a bigger hit, it only makes the movie worse. The martial arts scenes are so lame that I was surprised to see no use of onomatopoeia following every punch and kick. The characters are laughable and cannot be taken very seriously. For those hoping to see a great movie involving Jet Li, don't be fooled. He does not appear in this movie at all, and to buy this movie would simply be a wasted effort.

1.0 out of 5 stars This sequel just cannot hold a candle to the original.
Black Mask 2 has to be the worst ever sequel to a fine Hong Kong action film. The original Black Mask had spectacular fight choreography plus the talent of one Jet Li. Read more
