Product Description

Killer whales are beloved majestic, friendly giants yet infamous for their capacity to kill viciously. The documentary BLACKFISH unravels the complexities of this dichotomy, employing the story of the notorious performing whale Tilikum, who unlike any orca in the wild has taken the lives of several people while in captivity. BLACKFISH expands on the discussion of keeping such intelligent creatures in captivity.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must watch Sept. 27 2013
By Netizen
One of the most highly rated documentaries in recent years (currently holding an aggregate rating of 98% by film critics), this movie is one to cherish.

In 50 years time, we will look back and weep at the damage and destruction we caused to such a beautiful species. Similar to The Cove, this movie focuses on the untold profiteering of a corporation bent on maximizing income, no matter the cost. We see interviews from ex-Seaworld trainers, who were used and abused by management at Sea World, but who stayed on out of love for the orcas in their care.

We see first hand video of the deadly "accidents" that occurred to 3 trainers, and how Orcas kill humans out of frustration at being kept in captivity. We also see Seaworld immediately blame the trainers, and it is easy enough to see the contradictions when there have been no deaths from Orcas in the wild. Ever.

You'll be shocked, amazed, surprised, and horrified all at once, and make a vow to never give Seaworld an iota of your money after watching this doc. Well worth the price!

5.0 out of 5 stars Eye opening. Jan. 14 2014

I like most people are ignorant (not knowing) to how these animals are acquired. I had no idea. Greed has caused death, not only to the innocent whales, but also to the trainers working with them. Yet we as spectators support it not realizing the 'big picture'. Opened my eyes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Nov. 28 2013

This is a very enlightening documentary. The story follows the fate of one killer whale through its capture and transfer between two facilities. The particular whale has been linked to the death of three humans while it has been in captivity. The reasons will surprise you. BTW, if you like this documentary, you may also be interested in 'The Cove'.

The information provided was shocking and eye opening! there has to be a better way for humans to view the animals we currently keep in captivity. Imagine how we would feel looked in a cage for our whole lives!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought Provoking March 10 2014
I've always been fascinated with Orca. Saw them in Victoria before the tragedy there, saw them in SeaWorld San Diego. I've watched many documentaries on this magnificent whale. For me this presentation was a reminder about what a social creature this is and how lonely it must be for them in captivity. I thought it was very well done. I stop short at slamming Seaworld and would go back there anytime. This organization is regularly called upon to rescue animals. I don't have an easy answer for captivity or a simple solution but standing a few feet from an Orca because of SeaWorld was an amazing experience. Seaworld has made it possible to understand what a lovable creature this is.
