Light's Out...In Brooklyn, Sep 14 2009
By L. Romich "Book Nympho" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Blackout (Paperback)
On August 14, 2003, the eastern section of the United
States had a loss of electrical power, it was the worst in US history.
BLACKOUT by Anthony Whyte tells the story of what happened when the
lights went out in Brooklyn, New York that left everyone without
electricity for forty-eight hours.
This story is about the families that live in the
Hallsboro Projects. From the West Indian women sitting out front on
their lawn chairs gossiping, to the maintanence man that isn't just
maintaining the buildings, and the couple that is always fighting
because her man has been out of work and she is the only one working,
to a single mother raising her teenage son who is about to head off to
college, to a young boy that is just determined to stay in the
streets. When the lights go out...these lives will be forever changed.
When the blackout occurred, break-ins, looting, shootings and homicides all occur within the 48 hrs the lights were off.
Although BLACKOUT was a fairly fast read, it just didn't
keep me enthralled. It took forever for Mr. Whyte to get to the actual
blackout...the lights finally went out on page 111. I understand he
was leading up to that critical moment when the blackout occured but
still it dragged. I also felt some of the characters storyline's were
pretty predictable.
