First looked at the local selection of granite sinks which was the Franke brand, bought one and got it home but it was cracked and chipped and looked kind of cheap. My sister had this same Blanco sink and I got to experience hers and loved it! Hers appeared to be much better quality than the Franke brand. Bought it on amazon because it was not in stock locally and would have to be ordered. I would also like to add that shipping was extremely fast for this sink. The seller was Lifetime Water Works and it only took about 3 days to get it from the time of order...added bonus! After 2 months of ownership, I could not be happier with this sink! It is so beautiful and such a pleasure to use. Food doesn't stick to it, everything just glides right off of it and clean up is a breeze. All I ever do is rinse it when done washing and occasionally go over it with a soapy sponge. Don't anticipate ever having to scrub it, which is a good thing because you aren't supposed to use harsh scrubbers/chemicals. I can see why...you shouldn't need them!! I also love the 1-3/4 bowl design, I never realized how much better it would be to have a larger bowl on one side! Now all my pots/pans will fit on the larger side without the handles having to rest up on the edges. Much more room for washing, and it actually makes the entire sink look bigger in my opinion. I can use the right side to fill with water for washing, thawing meat or whatever, yet it is still big enough to function as a regular bowl if needed. PERFECT design. My husband did the entire installation of this sink himself and I helped. We bought a one-hole Moen faucet that came with a soap dispenser so we chose to knock out one of the pre-drilled holes for the soap dispenser and that was not a problem at all....got the instructions on how to do it on the Blanco website, which was with a ball peen hammer. We were a bit nervous but followed the directions and no problems at all! Also, I have seen other reviews of granite sinks where people complained about water stains, especially on the dark colors. I am happy to report that this sink doesn't appear to do that...nor does my sisters and she has had hers much longer. We both have the metallic gray color and this appears to be a great all around color. Perhaps with darker or lighter colors, more things will show either way. My previous sink was a white porcelain and it showed EVERYTHING. The finish had worn off of it and it would stain daily from food and use. I had to scrub it every day...major pain!
Some tips for installation I gathered from the Blanco website:
-When installing the strainer and disposer rings, use silicone instead of plumbers putty. Plumbers putty supposedly can stain granite sinks. We used silicone and it appears to work well and you can't see it.
-After installation, apply a coat of mineral oil over the whole sink to give it an extra layer of protection and keep it nice and new looking. This probably isn't necessary, but I did it anyway and plan to every several months or so. It makes it shiny and helps it repel water even more, and only takes a couple of minutes to do.
If you are in the market for this sink, do not hesitate to buy it...you will be very happy. After looking at several other brands and reviews, I am convinced that Blanco is the absolute best brand for granite sinks. I will never go back to porcelain or stainless steel after having this sink, and will only buy Blanco from now on!! Love it!!!
