5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and low maintenance Jan. 31 2006
By Robert Haven - Published on Amazon.com
I got this sink in black anthracite. When it came out of the box, and especially after installing it, it was discolored from grout and other stuff. I was worried sick that it wouldn't look nice, especially when soap and water failed to make it a nice black again. But after checking a small test area, I rubbed a little WD-40 onto it with a paper towel, and voila, it looked like new and has stayed looking new for weeks. I've hardly ever had to clean this sink, unlike the old porcelain sink it replaced, which had to be cleaned almost daily with Bon Ami. It is beautiful looking and requires very little care. What more can you ask for?

3.0 out of 5 stars Looks nice! but watch out for long term care Dec 31 2007
By D. Franklin - Published on Amazon.com
We purchased the black sink two years ago to go with our new granite counters. It looks very nice but it does need a little upkeep, long term, the color will look a little washed out and discolored with constant use, but with a good scrubing and some polish you can bring it back to its just new look. I got a product at a local hardware store called Marble and Granite Magic, and after a good scrubbing I apply the spray and the sink is back to new looking. I do this periodically and I can still get it to look new. I have also tried furniture polish or even vegetable oil, it is usually enough to give it back its original sheen.

1.0 out of 5 stars blanco sinks do not retain luster Oct. 13 2007
By DOGX - Published on Amazon.com
We bought a Silgranite black sink after admiring it at Home Depot several years ago. We thought surely the products to maintain it would be easily available but found differently. Most sellers of Blancoclean were commercial tile places and many did not sell to the public. Since the first week we installed the sink it did not retain its beautiful black luster. We fortunately bought several bottles of Blancoclean when we purchased our sink because it has not been readily available, even on the internet, until recently. There was also a Blanco Silgranit luster type polish in the Home Depot literature, which we have never found, and no longer see on the internet. We do regularly use Blancoclean and keep the sink wiped and free of debris but the shine is gone. Maybe a lighter color sink would not look so dried out and tired.

Be careful using products with petroleum distillates such as WD-40 since they could damage the sink and void your warranty. Read the warranty, ours said using any products other than Blanco would void the warranty. I suggest wood oil or beeswax since they are essentially food products and do not void your warranty. The catch is they do not last. I do not recommend buying a Blanco composite sink if you want a nice shiny area that sparkles with your nice granite counter tops. Our old stainless sink polished up very nicely since we did take good care of it and I wish I had it back. Without a lot of maintenance and oiling on the Silgranite you end up with a rather dull featureless black blob on the counter. I am really surprised not to see more negative reviews on the black sinks after this experience. Blanco's customer representatives would do nothing more than send us an email with a list of local retailers. From that list most no longer sold Blancoclean, did not sell to the public, or never carried the product. All this pain when Softscrub on a stainless sink looks so good is just ridiculous. 5.0 out of 5 stars Best sink EVER!!!! Feb. 16 2013

Verified Purchase
First looked at the local selection of granite sinks which was the Franke brand, bought one and got it home but it was cracked and chipped and looked kind of cheap. My sister had this same Blanco sink and I got to experience hers and loved it! Hers appeared to be much better quality than the Franke brand. Bought it on amazon because it was not in stock locally and would have to be ordered. I would also like to add that shipping was extremely fast for this sink. The seller was Lifetime Water Works and it only took about 3 days to get it from the time of order...added bonus! After 2 months of ownership, I could not be happier with this sink! It is so beautiful and such a pleasure to use. Food doesn't stick to it, everything just glides right off of it and clean up is a breeze. All I ever do is rinse it when done washing and occasionally go over it with a soapy sponge. Don't anticipate ever having to scrub it, which is a good thing because you aren't supposed to use harsh scrubbers/chemicals. I can see why...you shouldn't need them!! I also love the 1-3/4 bowl design, I never realized how much better it would be to have a larger bowl on one side! Now all my pots/pans will fit on the larger side without the handles having to rest up on the edges. Much more room for washing, and it actually makes the entire sink look bigger in my opinion. I can use the right side to fill with water for washing, thawing meat or whatever, yet it is still big enough to function as a regular bowl if needed. PERFECT design. My husband did the entire installation of this sink himself and I helped. We bought a one-hole Moen faucet that came with a soap dispenser so we chose to knock out one of the pre-drilled holes for the soap dispenser and that was not a problem at all....got the instructions on how to do it on the Blanco website, which was with a ball peen hammer. We were a bit nervous but followed the directions and no problems at all! Also, I have seen other reviews of granite sinks where people complained about water stains, especially on the dark colors. I am happy to report that this sink doesn't appear to do that...nor does my sisters and she has had hers much longer. We both have the metallic gray color and this appears to be a great all around color. Perhaps with darker or lighter colors, more things will show either way. My previous sink was a white porcelain and it showed EVERYTHING. The finish had worn off of it and it would stain daily from food and use. I had to scrub it every day...major pain!

Some tips for installation I gathered from the Blanco website:
-When installing the strainer and disposer rings, use silicone instead of plumbers putty. Plumbers putty supposedly can stain granite sinks. We used silicone and it appears to work well and you can't see it.
-After installation, apply a coat of mineral oil over the whole sink to give it an extra layer of protection and keep it nice and new looking. This probably isn't necessary, but I did it anyway and plan to every several months or so. It makes it shiny and helps it repel water even more, and only takes a couple of minutes to do.

If you are in the market for this sink, do not hesitate to buy it...you will be very happy. After looking at several other brands and reviews, I am convinced that Blanco is the absolute best brand for granite sinks. I will never go back to porcelain or stainless steel after having this sink, and will only buy Blanco from now on!! Love it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this Sink!!!!! March 19 2009
By Margaret Moore - Published on Amazon.com
We had this sink installed, using the drop in version, by a plumber in less than an hour. He said it was an easy install and great product... couldn't believe that we paid less than $300 for it.

It replaced a 6" deep drop in stainless sink, so he had to rework the pipes and disposal to accomodate the much deeper bowls. I love the eggshell like finish... it looks rich. And if we ever get granite countertops, we'll reuse this sink using the undermount version.

I can wash huge pots and pans that before stuck mostly over the edge of our other one... it's given the kitchen a real facelift. We couldn't be happier with this sink and would recommend it to anybody looking for a quality kitchen sink.
