I was quite surprised today to happen upon The Dunwells today. On principle, I never buy an album upon first hearing, especially from a group I've never heard of before; but today, I gladly violated my principle and quickly hit the purchase button. Their album, Blind Sighted Faith, is absolute guiltless ear candy. In solidarity with their website, I stand in agreement that they are "striking an exhilarating blend of English rock and American roots music". Like a good pot of Gumbo - where all those ingredients work effortless to flavor the batch, the Dunwells throw so much into their music. Sometimes I feel like I'm listening to the lyrical complexity of the Doors, the harmony of America and other anti-Viet Nam era groups of the early 70's, the driving guitar of old U2... but it all comes up uniquely Dunwells. There is conviction behind each word in every song. There's no fluff... just straight up substance, depth of talent, and mastery of craft that demands your attention.
