While Blink-182's pop-punk has given more than its share of entertaining moments over their career, "sonic experimentation" is hardly what you'd expect from their sixth studio album. Within their guitar-bass-drums template, however, they offer moments of playfulness and lyricism that stretch their definition of sound. The tempo changes and uses of (relative) silence in "Violence" and "Stockholm Syndrome" borrow post-punk conventions, and lend a new feel to the band's trademark cranked-upness. (The use of treated piano on the latter song also suggests that they’ve bent an ear to a few psychedelic-pop classics in their time.) As with 2001's Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, a theme of loneliness emerges upon the first couple of listens, but this time it feels as if Blink wants to connect it to something larger than before. Growth from the guys who once jokingly celebrated man-on-dog intercourse? Yeah. And best of all, it's worth hearing. --Rickey Wright

1.0 out of 5 stars WOW (as in it's terrible) July 7 2004
Format:Audio CD
I have only listened to this cd a couple times, and that was 2 times too many. I was a pretty big Blink fan before I heard this cd. I don't care about whether they are punk rock or not (they're not) as long as the music is good. I used to think the music is good. I don't mind stupid lyrics and untalented musicians (Travis is good) as long as the songs are infectious and amusing. However, I guess the boys got tired of being called un-talented and got tired of hearing how much they sucked live, and have tried very hard to become "artists." Bad idea. This cd is so bad. I really can't understand how it's popular. It's slow, annoying, not catchy. And there is a long part where a girl reads a letter out loud, to no kind of rhythm or anything, it's just talking. Now who in their right mind could call that music, and even more, enjoy it?! Wow. Please, go back to your old style of music, good lord.

1.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS NOT PUNK ROCK!!!!!!! July 5 2004
Format:Audio CD
I hate blink 182 and other bands like them. They claim to be punk rock and the fact of the matter is that punk is dead and it is because of bands like this. Stop watching mtv and go to your local record store and pick up some old school punk, better yet if you like 182 then dont because i dont want any more posers out there making the scene even worse

1.0 out of 5 stars This what happens when it takes a year to record June 21 2004
By "stivb"
Format:Audio CD
I consider myself a die hard Blink fan, but this album was pretty bad. All the other Blink albums took 2 weeks to record, this one a year. This one is nothing like the sound they invented. Hopefully, they'll play what comes natural, and record a good CD. Another one like this, and Mark and Tom will serving fast food for a living!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, after a while May 18 2004
Format:Audio CD
I really enjoyed the new Blink cd, BUT it took a while. I didn't like it at first. It was too slow and had wierd talking songs. I put it on the shelf for two weeks and listened again and fell in love. It is great. Here is my ratings for every song:
1. Feeling This(8/10) - Good song but I wish all the chorus were as energetic as the end.
2. Obvious (9/10) - One of my favs. Dark, but I like Boxcar so its cool.
3. I Miss You (8/10) - Repeats itself too much at times but very romantic.
4. Violence(7.5/10) - I don't know why but I do like this song. The verses are wierd but catchy. Listenable.
5.Stockholm Syndrome(9/10) - One of the only fast songs on the CD and it gives you that post punk Blink fix.
6. Down (10/10) - Lyrically and musically awesome. Very Sweet.
7. Fallen Interlude(0/10) - Not a electronic fan unless you count hello,goodbye
8. Go (9/10)- Old school Blink nice and fast. Catchy lyrics too.
9. Amnesia (8/10) - Very catchy choruses.
10. Always (10/10) - Another favorate. Cool bass sounds reminds me of a Blink 182 song.
11.Easy Target(7.5/10) - Entertaining at times and sweet guitars. I like the dual vocals, "Let me out!" parts.
12. All of This (5/10) - Good song but I'm not a Cure fan. not Blinks fault.
13. Here's Your Letter(10/10) - I love this song. Heavier and faster then almost the whole album. Nice work.
14. I'm Lost Without You (10/10) - Another super catchy Blink song and its very touching. Great album ender.

1.0 out of 5 stars It Makes Me Shudder May 12 2004
By "ldayo"
Format:Audio CD
*Shudder* Ughhh. Blink 182. Where do i begin? Oh, yes. Do not buy, do not buy, do not buy, do not buy... The CD makes me shudder. Why does it exist? Will it never leave me be?!? STOP TORMENTING ME, OH EVIL MUSIC WITH A SINGER WHO CANNOT PRONOUNCE THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE!!!! Spend your money on something more worthwhile, i beg you. Sorry to all the Blink fans, enjoy your band, though how you can i do not know, but to all the people considering it: No. Don't touch that order button. DO NOT CLICK. Disconnect and back slowly away from the computer. That's right. Now, run run run! Okay, I'm done now.

2.0 out of 5 stars 2 stars for effort Feb. 22 2004
By omar r.
Format:Audio CD
This album features a more mature Blink 182 sound than usual...and judging by this album that sound needs a bit more work.
It starts off with the single 'Feeling This'. This song is only good at 1:56. Mark easily has the best part. 'Obvious' is an average song. Travis has some great drum parts. It gets old pretty quickly though. Next is 'I Miss You', which Blink claimed to be the best song on their album. Don't get your hopes up, it sucks. Next is 'Violence', another one where Tom decides to talk instead of sing...I didn't like this song at all.
'Stockholm Syndrome' is possibly the best song on this entire CD, but it falls short because of the part near the end that Mark decided to sing. That part was the perfect part for Tom, but for some reason Mark is singing it. You can hear his voice cracking.
'The Fallen Interlude' has a bit of a hip-hop feel to it. I liked this song. Travis does a great job with the drums too.
The rest of the album, from here to the end I didn't like at all. The riffs are weak, and songs like 'Always' are boring. Probably the only other good song is 'Here's Your Letter'. Other than that, this was an overall bad album. If they improve their new sound a bit then they could make great albums...

1.0 out of 5 stars this cd is absolutely horrid. Jan. 9 2004
Format:Audio CD
i cannot believe anyone would actually waste their time more than once, listening to this cd.it amazes me the absolutely pathetic lenghts blink went to.only to create one of the worst cds, ever.its disgusting.i miss the blink i once knew from the early 90's.what they've become is horrid, and i think blink should do everyone in our society a favor.take a gun and kill themselves.
