Product Description

"Victoria Landis delivers a skillfully crafted page-turner with Blinke It Away. Vivid exotic settings and compelling characters come together in an engaging mystery that demands to be read in one sitting. Not to be missed." - Joe Moore, International Best-selling Co-Author of The Phoenix Apostles.

"I couldn't wait to get home to read more of Blinke It Away. Forget the chores; you'll want to sit down until you finish the story. Five stars!" - Nancy J. Cohen, author of the Bad Hair Day Mysteries

From Miriam Auerbach - author of the Dirty Harriet Mystery Series - "Victoria Landis pens a tale of suspense filled with well-crafted plotting, vivid characterizations, and lush descriptions of the Hawaiian landscape. You can practically feel the Pacific breezes, hear the crash of the North Shore surf, and smell the tropical blooms and the burning pineapple fields that 'make it seem as though the entire populace decided to bake a pineapple upside down cake at the same time.' "

From Randy Rawls - author of the Ace Edwards PI Series and Thorns on Roses - ". . . a series of events that allow the author, Victoria Landis, to paint a picture of Oahu that no tourist could know."

From Vincent H. O'Neil - winner of the St. Martins Press/Malice Domestic Best First Traditional Mystery Novel Competition, and author of the Frank Cole Mystery Series - ". . . an excellent debut novel from an exciting new voice who really knows suspense, action, and Hawaii. Check it out. This one's a winner."

It's an idyllic day on Oahu until Bess Blinke interrupts a bizarre robbery that ends in homicide. In the following days, she discovers terrible secrets tied to the crime, and her world unravels. When the killer realizes the depth of what she knows and comes after her, she escapes, hides, and plots to reveal the truth and expose the brutal force behind several murders - hoping to do so before they can kill her, too.

Lauded for its authentic grasp of the 'local' Hawaiian culture, Blinke It Away takes the reader into the everyday bustle of ordinary life in Hawaii and shows the reality far from the staging presented to tourists.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top of the line whodunit! Feb. 16 2012
By Patricia Austin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Victoria Landis has produced an immensely readable, exciting, and - yes - thought provoking novel with Blinke It Away. Her plot line is consistently exciting although she did allow me to come up for breath every so often before hitting me with the next frightening event. However, the book is much more than that! It is a study of characters and of the many faces of the individuals she presents, it is a tale of love and the absence of love, and even of ethnicity and the cruelty of victors over vanquished. Set in Hawaii, we also learn of the people to whom that tourist paradise is living and working home. Thank you, Ms. Landis for hours of enjoyment!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, the whole way through. Nov. 22 2011

"Blinke It Away" is the first book I have finished in years! I start books, lose interest, and do not finish them. This debut novel held my interest from the very first chapter. I ordered it immediately once I had read the preview available from Amazon. I finished reading within a day or two. The setting is beautiful Hawaii. The characters are colorful and varied. Ms. Landis is able to describe and present settings and characters vividly, using very few, perfectly selected words.
The book is an easy read, scenes chock full of lush environment and contemporary hijinx! Lighthearted fun co-mingled with darkside drama is presented wonderfully. A spirited mixture of humanity, individualism, collective strength and right vs. wrong held my attention throughout as all roads lead to the Eddie Aikau surf competition.
I can't wait for the sequel!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping Suspense Tale Dec 11 2012
By Nancy J. Cohen - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Bess Blinke witnesses her best friend Jenny being murdered on the playground where her children are laughing and innocently happy. Dismayed when James, the husband, seems to care more for his own selfish needs than his kids, she offers to help care for them. Family secrets start to unravel as she learns more about Jenny's life. The path takes Bess down a road she wouldn't have imagined. Lies, deception, and danger follow her as she attempts to discover who killed Jenny. When another person she trusted dies, she's afraid the tentacles reach far further than she'd known. On the run, she has to expose the killer before his henchmen find her. Detailed descriptions of Hawaiian scenery, politics, and lifestyles add to this gripping story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not thrilled with the title June 5 2012
By Wanda Peters - Published on Amazon.com

I almost did not read this book because of the title. It sounded like something out of "I dream of Jeannie". After the first few pages I was hooked. The story was very well written and developed. What stops me from giving it five stars? The ending was lame. There could have been a hundred ways to end this book but the one chosen was absolutely horrible.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great escape fiction! April 30 2012
By JoJo431 - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I received a complimentary copy of this book in order to review it. This story is so entertaining, I stayed up way past my bedtime in order to finish it. The characters are so well developed that I found myself caring for most of them - even the ones that appeared to be villians. The heroine is the kind of friend all of us hope we can be...loyal to the bitter end and determined to see justice done regardless of what it costs her. There were so many possible villians, I particularly liked the way the author took a villian and redeemed them by the end of the book. Another thing I liked is that the author took care to introduce a limited number of characters into the storyline and developed them to logical conclusions instead of throwing dozens of characters into the mix who make brief appearances then disappear with no explanation.
