Great second album,

A real talent! The songs and arrangements are original and interesting, with her personality coming through - way better than the usual trite commercial stuff produced by a lot of anglophone artists.Highly recommended!

4 1/2 Stars, Transcends Language!,

First off the album is mostly in French which would generally would turn me off. Nothing against French, it is just that I dropped French after Grade 9, and even then my French wasn't very good. So I don't have a clue what the lyrics are about. On top of that the songs have a sweet poppy sound. That is also something I'm not generally into. But despite these facts I find this album irresistible. I can't listen to this album with out feeling all giddy inside.

A Better Beatrice but (way too) pricey CD from Amazon,

So there's lots of music out thea' for lotsa pupils. There B rap an' country an' popsiccal and good ole-fashioned pop. So this is French and I understand 'bout half but I like it, I like it, I like it. 'Course, it woulda been betta if da review coulda been reviewing, like, the Amazon produce. You can order da CD for $40 bucks (forty!! - or try the Canadian site, where it's 15 plus S&H) or get the m4a files elsewhere for $10. Considering Beatrice has done this before, you'd think we could get the mp3's by now. Same thing for Emily Loizeau's latest. Beatrice is a cute singer with a cute voice and a colorful body - and past. But the tunes, production and performance are way above average. If you don't like pop, don't bother. If you do, this is sweet. Allons-y!Update: saw Beatrice, tattoos and all at the Ballroom Highline (where you could pick up the CD's for $10!), half the crowd was French (Canadian), she did a super show. Next time she plays in the United States the tickets will likely be a hundred bucks each. Her music and lyrics are crafted and she has an uncanny ability to deliver MUSIC, an oft-forgotten quality of a good record. Her uncanny resemblance to Billie Piper (or the other way around) is worthy of comment. The live performances by her musicians were perfectly cued. Her English is quite clear and she's recorded an English album as Armistice. This one is a keeper. |
