Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

In this excellent political novel about an American Jewish correspondent stationed in Jerusalem, Worldweek's Jared Paul Gordon is in a vise. Fascinated by Israel, for the first time in his life, Gordon finds his coverage of controversial issues criticized not only by the right-wing government but also by Adrian, his American-Jewish girlfriend, and her father, a millionaire who often intercedes on Israel's behalf. Gordon has taken the trouble to learn Hebrew and as a result made excellent contacts in the army and intelligence services, but when he tries to file an article on secret government assistance to anti-Arab extremists, his editors are pressured to suppress it. Weisman (Guerilla Theater does not create especially pungent characters or evocative atmosphere, but he has seized an important theme: the conflict between the journalist's ethic of reporting even the most sensitive stories and many Israelis' harsh, perhaps necessary reverence for realpolitik. With descriptions of events and interactions that reveal the hand of an experienced journalist, Weisman gives a sharp sense of politics and rivalries within Israel's complicated domestic scene.

From Library Journal

Jared Paul Gordon, Jerusalem's bureau chief for Worldweek magazine during the turbulent years of Prime Minister Begin's tenure, grapples with the question, Does a Jewish journalist have the obligation to be supportive, not critical, of Israel? An invitation to a secret mission in Syria brings Gordon face to face with execution-type justice, but his efforts at reporting it fairly are stymied while terrorism and political betrayal mount. Author Weisman deftly weaves into his novel the thorny problems of Israel's futurewill it become a levantine state, will Jewish terrorism increase, how will the Palestinian question be resolved? Juxtaposed to intrigue is a beautiful love story, exquisite descriptions of Jerusalem, and a hard look at the relationship between Israelis and American Jews. An exciting, important novel that is highly recommended. Molly Abramowitz, Silver Spring, Md.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Well Written Novel of Israel, May 19 2000
This review is from: Blood Cries (Hardcover)
Most people who know this author are familiar with his work on the great Rogue Warrior series. And his work with Richard Marchinko is awesome.

However, he wrote this book solo before the whole Rogue Warrior thing. The novel is a interesting and entertaining look at modern Israel and the issues of security and peace it shares with its neighbors.

I enjoyed the book very much and was very interested in its depiction of Israel. The author does some great stuff with the Rogue Warrior and I hope he does some more solo work too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read, Jun 6 2005

Having read Mr. Weisman's SOAR, Jack in the Box, Rogue Warrior (with Richard Marcinko), and the Rogue Warrior novels (with Richard Marcinko)I was curious about his earlier writings. This book does not disappoint. It is a depiction of an American newswriter who is Jewish and it assigned to write stories in Israel for his news paper. The story offers a depiction of Israel that is unlike what we see in the newspapers or on TV. The central love story is well written. I really enjoyed this and will be sharing it with friends and family. If you're looking for some intrigue, you'll find it here. If you're looking for controversy, you'll find it here. If you're looking for a rich, beautiful story, you'll find it here. This is a great read. I was sorry that the story came to an end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blood Cries is an old book--1987- hard to find, Jun 21 2009

Jared Paul Gordon, magazine writer is not a good Jew. His girlfriend Ms.Adrian Cooper is a good Jew. She is teaching Jared how to be one.

Jared is caught up in Jewish terrorism. The Israeli military and intelligence communities are involved in a cover up. Jared is on their trail but they have the power to stop him. Will he live long enough to do it.

This book is full of sites, smells, history, love, death, murder & lies. Nothing is what it seems.

A real THRILLER.

John Weisman is one of my favorite authors.

I LOVED THIS BOOK. Please read it.
