This review is from: Blood Hunt (Paperback)
The jacket reads: "Sylvan, the Wolf Were Alpha, forges an uneasy alliance with Vampire Detective Jody Gates, heir to a powerful Vampire clan, to battle a shadow army of humans and rogue Praeterns bent on destroying any hope of legal acceptance of the non-human species. With outside forces threatening to destroy the Praetern Coalition, several female Were adolescents turn up missing and chaos descends upon Sylvan's personal guards when Sylvan and her new mate are overtaken by breeding frenzy. While Sylvan struggles to protect her Pack, Jody fights her destiny as well as her growing hunger for human reporter, Becca Land."

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Follow Up & Too Many Characters, Mar 14 2011
By L. Dixon - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Blood Hunt (Paperback)
I would have given the book 2 and 1/2 stars, but since that wasn't an option, I rounded up because, well, it's Radclyffe, and she has contributed a lot of excellent fiction to my shelves over the years. Anyway, I'll be brief. I had high hopes for this sequel, as I very much enjoyed the characters of Sylvan and Drake in the first book and how fully fleshed-out they were. If you are planning to read this novel in the hopes that you'll be reading about Sylvan and Drake's budding relationship, think again. Radclyffe (writing here as L L Raand) has like 8 major characters in this one and Sylvan and Drake (the should-be "power couple" of the book) disappear TWICE for over FIFTY pages at a time! (I don't remember off hand, but it was something like p. 30 to p. 80 and p. 160 to p. 210 or something like that, in addition to other stretches). Much to my dismay, other than some interesting scenes of intimacy between the two, there is very little real character development for Sylvan and Drake in this novel. I felt like they played third or fourth fiddle in what should have been *their* book. Becca and the vamp (can't recall the name) were much more developed, as were Nikki and others.

While I imagine that L L Raand is laying the ground-work for a long series with spin-off potential (vampire novels, etc.), she is sacrificing, in my opinion, the very thing that makes her novels excellent: strong central characters and pairings with excellent dialogue and development. This happened in the "Breakwater" series (with Tory and Reese) where too many characters stole the attention, also, and it eventually lost my attention as well [which is truly too bad, since other than Cam and Blair, Tory and Reese were my fav. couple of Radclyffe's].

Needless to say, I won't be recommending this one to friends. I hope the next one in the series is more major-character driven and less concerned with advancing a plot around what should be minor characters. If this is to be a long series, there's plenty of time to flesh these B-characters out later or more gradually without sacrificing huge amounts of the central characters' "screen time".

3.0 out of 5 stars I was so looking forward to this one, April 22 2011
By bug - Published on Amazon.com

Man was I ever looking forward to this second book, but I have to say something did not come together for me in it. I found I started skimming through it more then anything. I wonder if it is all the different convulated story lines going through it. It could be just me, I tend to enjoy books that focus on the main characters and not giving the behind scenes set ups. I think that this series has great potential and I will get the next one (which I am sure there will be).

This is a great sequel to the first book in the series. The characters really draw you in and the sex is incredibly erotic. I look forward to reading each of the following books in this series. Great job LL RAAND!! I am not much into vampires and werewolves but this book makes me feel like on of the pack.
