Review

'War, politics and tragedy test the foundations of a lifelong friendship ... a thrilling story of loyalty and betrayal, forged in the heat of a war in which there would ultimately be no winners" - Bruce Dennill, The Citizen "the real strength of this compelling story lies in its hope that good will eventually derive from the chaos that predominates in this country at present. It is a hope we all share" - General John Hickman (former Commander Rhodesian Army) "I could not stop reading this in-depth story; it was fascinating to read of those incredible incidents that actually happened. Blood Lily sends a clear message to all people on this continent that we should not allow our leaders to dictate and feed propaganda to the masses. " - Ray Mordt (former Springbok and Rhodesian winger) "The excitement level maintained throughout the book means it is an equally good read for those who have no connection to Zimbabwe." -- The South African newspaper "I personally enjoyed Cranswick's Literary style and his underlying compassion, in the midst of graphic descriptions of battle, torture and death." -- Richard R. Blake, Reader Views "Riveting read, a novel that you just can't put down. A sad, emotive, but ultimately uplifting and informative account of the bloody Rhodesian war. A must read!" -- George Walmsley

Book Description

Scott is facing bankruptcy amid the turmoil that grips the financial markets of 2008. He is saved when money is transferred to his account from an unexpected source. We flash back to war-torn 1970s' Rhodesia where Scott is growing up as a privileged white boy alongside his best friend, Simba, a black boy, on his parents' farm ... A sweeping tale of naivety, treachery, war and genocide, of love and friendship... and ultimately of hope and regeneration.

Loved this book, a really insightful look at what took place in Zimbabwe. It's one of those "you had to live through it, to get it books" but for those who didn't this book will give you a very good idea of how it was.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bloody Great Book!, Oct 18 2011
By Michael Smorenburg "Michael Smorenburg" - Published on Amazon.com
What a fantastic story - well written, very fast paced; like Wilbur Smith 'used' to write before he got esoteric and confused, and forgot what makes a great yarn! On that note - what a shame that it's mostly based on dinkum fact - what a pity the tragedy of the land is not some cruel fiction - but what a wonderful complex human drama unfolds, with the best and worst of humanity served up in equal measure. So many have a begging bowl out for Africa or at least a twist of guilt that they'd like to help this desperate continent. But to help you need to understand. Read the book and you grasp another facet; because, only when you 'grasp' Africa can you finally begin to 'help' Africa.
