Sarah Stouffer plays Jacqueline, a child star that has grown up and decided to go to college in Bloomington. She navigates the hallways and quadrangles just fine, but comes across an uncomfortable student population who alternatively fawns over her, (as big fans of Neptune 26, her cult TV series) or cast disapproving looks at the pampered ex-star. Jackie herself hates the attention. As a straight-edged girl with a solid head on her shoulders, she honestly wants to learn - and get away from her obnoxious mother. She quickly takes on two majors, and buckles down with a study group of uneasy buddies. As it turns out, she's trying to escape from tragedy.

"The Power of HYPE" would be my alternate title....hyped as a lesbian film...only both women sleep with men...hyped as a romance...only there was NO chemistry at all between the 2 characters. The whole "teacher seduces student" theme was...well...creepy...they meet at a Faculty mixer and about 5 minutres later they are in bed...and don't get me started about that the fact that the "in bed" scenes could just as easily have been a Tae Chi intructional video...no I take that back...there is at least some grace and beauty to Tae Chi...these women had NO CHEMISTRY WHATSOEVER! As a lesbian University Prof. myself, let me tell you this would NEVER happen as portrayed. I'm not saying Profs and students don't sleep together (though it is extremely uncommon), but the complete "laissez faire" attitude of the Prof to what would absolutely be grounds for dismissal was completely unbelievable (not to mention the fact that we're led to believe that said Prof does this pretty much every semester).
HUGE FAIL!! Save your money and do not buy this turkey of a film.

The storyline about a young female teen star leaving Hollywood to go to college in the Midwest and then falls for her prowling female psych teacher is interesting, but the actress playing the girl is a bit young-looking so it is a bit awkward to see her with the older college professor, who is drop-dead gorgeous. Also, if you are familiar with Bloomington, you will be dissapointed to see that it wasn't really filmed in Bloomington. Another light, lesbian film, but the end is sort of intriguing.

It was interesting watching this movie, a few production mistakes, but a good 1st movie for the director. I liked the 2 main characters, particularly Catherine. Sometimes it is a little frustrating watching a movie that has 2 likeable characters and it doesn't end the way you want it to.
