A Wonderful Album,
By
This review is from: Blossoming (Audio CD)
This is an excellent CD, and Marieve is a very talented singer. This album contains a variety of classic Jazz songs, mostly in tribute to the famous Blossom Dearie. The majority of the songs are all happy and upbeat, so this CD is sure to get you into a good mood and keep you there. The lyrics are often funny and always enjoyable, so these songs are likely to keep a smile on your face while you listen to them as well. There is also a slow song or two, just to keep everything balanced out, and these are nice as well. Without any particular prior knowledge about Jazz music in general, I was able to fully enjoy all these songs from the first listen, so I think the choice of songs to include on this CD was made very well. It's possible for the average person to pick up this CD and enjoy it right away, and I think it would be equally well appreciated by the Jazz connoisseur as the quality of the performance is very high. Marieve is a very talented singer and voice actress, and she can be heard as the voice of Delilah on the international hit TV series Delilah & Julius, which airs on both TELETOON English and TELETOON French in Canada, as well as many other networks around the globe. On this show, she provides the voice of Delilah in both languages, and on this CD, she sings two of the songs in French as well. The quality of the recording is also very high, so it will be enjoyable if played on any sort of a high-end audio system as well. In December, I attended a live performance where Marieve sang along with saxophone player Rob Christian and pianist Mark Kieswetter at the Hilton Suites hotel in Markham, Ontario. It was a very enjoyable evening, and when we had the chance to speak with them during an intermission, they were very pleasent and courteous. I really had the sense that they were easily approachable, and they thanked us for coming to the show, which was certainly very kind of them. I highly recommend this CD, and I think if you want some good music that can be enjoyed by the whole family at any time, you can't go wrong with this purchase. This is the track listing (it's currently not displayed on Amazon) : 1. Moonlight Savings Time 2. Rhode Island Is Famous For You 3. Plus Je T'Embrasse 4. Lies of Handsome Men 5. Sympathique 6. I Hear Music 7. Someone's Been Sending Me Flowers 8. Everything I've Got 9. A Fine Spring Morning 10. Give Him The Ooh La La 11. I Won't Dance 12. When In Rome 13. Belleville Rendezvous

Unforgettable album,

This review is from: Blossoming (Audio CD)
I decided to buy "Blossoming" as soon as I happened to hear a song sung by Marieve Herington. Today I have received the CD and I have listened it at once: thirty-seven minutes of great jazz that one never tires of listening, in any situation, travelling by car as partying with friends. All the songs are on a very high quality level and performed with great care. Marieve has a unique voice and a great talent in several areas: in addition to being a brilliant singer, she is an amazing actress and even a sophisticated expert in culinary art! I suggest everyone to discover this young, lovely and talented Canadian artist, through this excellent CD and visiting her website, where you can also find her upcoming shows. Unfortunately, I''m living in Sardinia (Italy) at the moment, but as soon as possible I will attend a live performance in Toronto or Los Angeles, where Marieve currently lives and works.

Old Soul in a young girl's voice,
By Winslow "Leach" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Blossoming (Audio CD)
It's startling to think that the voice coming out of this girl is that of a young Canadian's (who has obviously studied and long had a deep love for 20's-era Jazz Vocalese) and not a seasoned pro, many years her senior. The rich, clear tones belie a performer from a different time. It's nice to know that, in this day and age when Female vocalists usually opt for some sort of obnoxious, breathy warble or yodel to their voice (See Alanis, Cranberrie's Dolores O'Riordan, et al), Herington instead chooses to sing in the delicate patois of Jazz-Vocal greats such as Blossom Dearie and Edith Piaf (Herington's voice, when singing in her native french is truly magical). The result is a treat, on record and especially live. If you're a fan of music from a bygone era, you'll doubtless be impressed by this record, not to mention by her live performances, as I was, seeing her sing in a local L.A. Club.

Rare treat,

I saw this girl perform live and instantly succumed to her charms.I ordered this cd immediately, and it exceeded my expectations. If you are a fan of Blossom Dearie,(as she is) then I think you will love this.Although she has a sweet voice and makes the songs her own,A more loving tribute to miss Dearie could not be crafted. You wil be amazed at her sophistication on this album when you learn her age! Also, her love for her craft is obvious and you can tell how much fun she has with these songs. This cd is great driving up the coast, or perfect at a cocktail party. Don't miss out on this one! |
