Music by Orion is some of the best Celtic music ever written! A bit hard to find, but well worth the search and the price in my opinion. I keep my originals under lock and key. The unity and flow and delightfulness of this music really defies verbal description - which is an oxymoron - I know, but it does. I save this music to listen to when I'm in beautiful places - not for like vacuuming etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wistfully sweet and wonderfully arranged Celtic music!, Sep 30 2006
By Brianna Neal - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Blue Room (Audio CD)
Orion is a continental Celtic group based in Belgium. There's something about their wistfully, reedy sound and the ever-evolving harmonic structures of their arrangements that I just love! The slow songs are beautifully sweet and sad, and the livelier numbers are rich and rousing. Although it is melodious and often relaxing, I can never play their work as mere background music; there's always something about it--whether delicately nuanced or vibrantly intense--that draws me in and holds my attention. Orion's combination of accordion, acoustic guitar and bodhran with electronic instruments like bass and keyboard creates a smooth, semi-New-Age sound that is somewhat reminiscent of the Irish group Relativity, but retains more of a traditional feel. Anchored by founders Raquel Gigot on accordion, Rudy Veighe on fiddles, and Gwenael Micault on keyboards, Orion also features guitarist Solg Siberil on this album, which is named for the blue room in which the group likes to play. The international character of the band is underscored by the inclusion of two fun non-Celtic pieces on "Blue Room"--the eastern European "Vitocha / Gare aux Bulles! / Hora de Goicia" and the Swedish "Polska / Quilter's Delight." I had a hard time finding copies of Orion's CDs, and now I count them as prized possessions and never tire of listening to them. Do yourself a favor and snap up a copy of "Blue Room," or subsequent albums like "1990" and "Restless Home," if you have the opportunity. You'll be glad you did!
