5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD, Sep 23 2003

I got this CD coincidentally a few years ago when I lent it from the library. I was a bluesfan for years already but only knew the big names like BB King etc. This album showed me there's a lot more. Since I heard this CD and knew the names of the people/band playing on it my horizon broadened. It set me to buying CD's of James Harman and that led me to Hollywood Fats, James Clarke etc. This CD is great studymaterial for guitarplyers also! This afternoon I listened to the CD again and enjoyed the incredible guitarplaying of Mike Morgan.

I bought this disk for one track -- Earl King's "Time for the Sun to Rise". I'd heard it one morning on public radio (way to go, MPR!), and knew it was one of my all-time favorite songs. Now, the tune is one of my favorite after-dark jams.

Lucky me! The rest of the album is just as good, though the shining track for me is still the one I purchased it for. "Travelling Mood", "Forgive Me Darling" and "That's When My Soul Comes Down" are probably my favorites from the remainder of the set. These *are* the blues, but they aren't out-dated or so deep in the genre that they are inacessible to all but the most hard-core fans. Grab a chair and pull up to listen. You can sing along or hear excellent technique on the guitar from some truly masterful players (that is the purpose of the album I imagine, guessing from the title). Whatever your comfort level with or knowledge of the blues, this record will push you a little bit further.
