Product Description

From the Back Cover

Here is the first major book devoted exclusively to the exciting world of big-game fly fishing. Trey Combs has found the prime destinations (from Baja, California to Australia) for seventeen different species - and each has its own chapter - dorado, Pacific sailfish, Atlantic sailfish, blue marlin, black marlin, striped marlin, white marlin, albacore, yellowfin tuna, bigeye tuna, blackfin tuna, kawakawa tuna, black skipjack, skipjack tuna, dogtooth tuna, wahoo, Pacific salmon, and inshore gamefish. Combs gives a short history and fly-fishing strategies for each gamefish, as well as delightful anecdotes of his own fishing experiences. The book also includes important, up-to-the-minute chapters on tackle and teasing techniques, a major section on bluewater flies and poppers, and tying advice from such experts as Lefty Kreh, Bob Popovics, Rod Harrison, Winston Moore, Nick Curcione, Chico Fernandez, Steve Abel, Pete Parker, Richard Stoll, and many others. (8 3/4 X 11 1/4, 332 pages, color photos, illustrations)

I checked this book out of our local library and am now buying a copy for my cousin and for me. To my knowledge, no other book of this kind exists. The book is filled with state of the art bluewater techniques with fanstastic photos and stories from around the world. I highly recommend this book.

Loved the book but wished it contained a chapter on bluefin tuna. That is the most common blue water flyfishng in the northeast. An informative and fun read however. Makes me want to go back to Mexico for sails and marlin.

this is a very entertaining, informative read. the author has obviously "been there and done that" and his anecdotes about his own trips and experiences are interesting. the book also has plenty of how-to info, including a small section on big-game saltwater knots. i would recommend this book to anyone planning a bluewater trip.
