Product Description

The Bodum Assam double wall cooler/beer glass is 13 ounces in size and can be used for cold or warm beverages. Its unique design is appealing to the eye when filled with your favorite beverage. With its double layer of borosilicate glass it appears as though the liquid is 'floating' within the glass. They will not sweat when filled with a cold beverage, so you will not have to use a coaster. The double wall creates a thermal effect, helping to keep your cold drinks cold and your hot drinks hot for longer periods of time. These mouth blown glasses are an exciting product for any home, restaurant, and cafe and are a definite conversation piece.

While I love the style and design of these, the glass used to make them is just too thin. The slightest tap against a hard surface and they break.

Having previously owned a different pair of double walled Bodum glases, I knew these would be delicate. I considered that through this review, and my use of the product.

Nice design
Double walled

Very Thin Glass
Small Size
The Glass will break

I have previously owned a pair of double walled coffee mugs from Bodum. One of them was broken when they arrived, and the other one was placed loose in a sink, and broke. These are delicate, so I took care of them. I suppose part of the idea of the double wall is that there is no need for ice, because the glasses are well insulated. And these glases ARE well insulated. You no longer need coasters for wood surfaces, because condensation will not form on the outside, and the drink probably stays cooler longer. However, I wanted a cold drink. I, knowing the glases are delicate, lowered a cube of ice into an empty cup as far as my hand would fit, then dropped it. The bottom of the glass cracked. So, These are NOT strong. If you want these, get them as an occasional use glass. You should hand wash each one individually, and do not use them regularly. These are very nice, but because of the poor construction, I cannot recommend them.

Great Glasses, but only if the user is great, too... Jan. 27 2006

These double-walled glasses kicked some major butt.

While they lasted.

I love beer, and these were perfect for keeping a tall-n'-frosty, FROSTY. They were great.

BUT, within a month, both had fallen prey to a house with dangerous, hard surfaces; their thin walls were little splinters of light on the floor and sink, respectively.

So, if you are sure you can care for them gently and nicely, I'd say get them. If you have a sink with a little bit of a slope that causes them to tip, or you leave them near the edge of a drying rack, you'll be living in constant fear of breaking them.

If I could shelter them, I'd have a set of twelve.

Double wall beverage glasses Sept. 10 2005
By B. Briscoe - Published on
These mouth blown double wall glasses keep their contents cold to the last drop. I tested them to 2 hours and the contents were still as cold as when poured. The glasses have a smooth, pleasant feel to the lips and are attractive enough for the most discerning guest. They will hold 12 oz of beer, but no room for a head, so pour with care. I am using them for every drink I want to keep hot or cold. They don't "sweat" and they don't burn my hands with hot liquid in them. Great, classy, addition to our bar.

impressive looks, too fragile for everyday Sept. 26 2007

i bought these mugs because i thought they were aesthetically pleasing as well as really a good idea. these statements are still both true, as i enjoyed using the glasses for the short time they lasted. unfortunately these glasses are extremely delicate. they are as delicate as expensive crystal. sadly, using these mugs to enjoy my morning coffee resulted in them lasting no more than a few days. all that it took to destroy a mug was the impact from a slight tilting onto the counter from a standing position on that same counter. the other mug shattered upon a light bump while being hand washed in the sink. it is a shame, because they are so beautiful and do really work as described. please bodum try again and make these a bit more robust?

Bodum Hits Bottom Aug. 28 2012
By RJP - Published on
I have had the Bodum double-wall glasses for several years now. They are (were) a really great design, aesthetically pleasing, functional and yes, somewhat fragile.

I recently purchased a few new sets. To my surprise I find that the glasses have a rubber/silicone plug on the bottom. Should have read the reviews... Bodum will tell you this is a `vent' but in actually it's a hole left from their new manufacturing process. BEWARE THIS HOLE WILL LEAK in-between the inner and outer shell. I washed four (4) of the new glasses in the dishwasher, top rack. Two (2) immediately leaked, the others leaked within in 2nd-3rd washing. Contacted Bodum's customer service, "LEAKING IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY". You will be left with a set of expensive, foggy/wet/dirty looking glasses. I promptly returned all my new glasses for a refund.

Bodum's new manufacturing process makes for a smother rim between the inner and outer shells of the glass but for some reason they are unable to seal the glasses at the bottom with glass as they had been when handmade. This new design is significantly flawed and disappointing.

You've been warned. I'd give them no stars if I could.

i've had these less than 2 wks. just was hand-washing one and it slipped - huge sharp shards slice both of my hands - jagged and deep.
as a 27+-yr career research biochemist, i am used to pyrex lab glass - which i THOUGHT this was - waaaaaaaaaaaayyy too thin for in-home use!

do not buy.
