Killer coffee mug, Dec 1 2010

Love the function. Love the color. Love the size...this is a 12 oz. cup (about 1.5 times the size of most coffee cups). Broke one washing in the sink. My fault though. I ordered another set because I felt bad and one of the new ones arrived broken. One simple piece of newspaper wadded up in the box would have prevented this. I shudder to think of the costs involved with short sighted packaging (Customer angst, extra packaging, extra smog, traffic and wasted pay generated by extra deliveries, etc.). Contacted Amazon and a replacement arrived the next day. So far, so good with Amazon's customer service.

Heavy and Fragile, Feb 17 2011

One of the two easily breakable, very expensive, porcelain "coolers" arrived shattered and the other one cracked. No surprise since these fragile porcelain things were foolishly put in the worst packaging I've ever received from Amazon out of hundreds of orders over the years: The small Bodum box had no cushion or protection at all inside the small Amazon box!
I doubt we'd have ever used them anyway since, while pretty, they are absurdly heavy for a "cooler."
[Unfortunately, by the time I returned from a trip, it was too late to return them to Amazon, but that is my costly mistake.]

Terrific all-around glass/tumbler; great gift, Mar 8 2010

I have only received and used mine for a few days now (keep that in mind). I really like them so far - they have a nice sturdy feel, they are not too big to grip even for smaller adult hands, and the silicone grip on them really fit the hand well and gives you an extra secure feel for keeping this tumbler steady (it is heavier than typical to begin with, and especially after filling with your drink).
I think most anyone would like drinking out of this cup, so I think they'd make great presents for friends (most mens could probably handle the neutral colors).
I can't tell, so far, whether the double wall porcelain really helps to keep drinks hot/cold for longer. I have used the 6 oz. version of this cup with hot tea, and it doesn't *seem* to keep the tea warm for an especially long time. However, they do seem to reduce/prevent condensation on the outside, if your drink is icy cold. This could benefit office worker types who work with lots of paper, etc. The colors can also add a little "flair" to someone's desk-bound workaday life.
I got these Bodum cups mainly because of their silicone/rubber grip. I couldn't find any other glass/porcelain cups with rubber/silicone grips.
I took off one star for their price - they are pricey. But if they hold up well and continue to function down the line as they do right now, then they might warrant 5 stars. I can understand that truly high quality, well-designed, long-lasting consumer products are worth paying 2-5x the price of the competing off-brand/no-brand models. But it seems that a lot of times, "high quality", "precision engineering", "European designed", etc. is just a lot of marketing BS to make a subpar "Made in China" product seem swanky (I've read this about the Sigg "Swiss engineered" Chinese-made water bottles). So, I hope that these Bodum cups continue to please me and have me feeling certain that they're worth their price like 5 years from now.
