A Remake of the Spy Game,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Body of Lies (Widescreen Edition) (DVD)
Russel Crowe, the head of the CIA states: This is a results-oreiented organization. Get me results". to Di Caprio the rising star of the Middle East campaign against terrorism. Is he an Arab? This is hinted, but we never really know. Certainly, he understands the culure and respects it until he betrays his allies. DiCapprio's clearly the hero. He gets results. Unfortunately, the plot is muddied as we fly from CIA headquarter in Langley, Iraq, Iran, Amsterdam, the desert, Amman in Jordan and back again and again. I had to watch it twice to follow the globtrotting plot line. Crowe is superb and so it DiCapprio in their roles, but they lack the relaitonship shown in The Spy Games despite the similarities of Dicapprio's growing attraction to the nurse from Syria. Oh yes, the movie went there, too.Smacking the CIA seems to be popular in movies and for all I know they deserve it, but this war on terrorism is getting a little tiresome. Only the head of the Jordanian Police? has integrity, and while DiCaprio betrays him ... The Jordanian still wins the day. He is truly the star of the movie. He has integrity, skill, initiative, loyalty and is even more devious than DiCapprio. Yes, Crowe praises our rising star of the Near East for his deviousness. In the end, Crowe remains true to the Spy code. If you've seen Spy Game you will know Ford outlined that clearly to Brad Pitt. It's worth renting for the actor's performances and for seeing how many places a movie can portray in two hours, but the plot is convoluted and the relationships don't make you like or dislike the stars ... so why should the audience care. If your're going to buy a DVD, buy The Spy Game. It's clear, conclse and has a great storyline as well as great actors. Body of Lies (Widescreen)
