5.0 out of 5 stars A Non-Stop Action Thriller With Heart! Aug 28 2005
By Andrew Salmon - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I've been a fan of William C. Dietz's work for awhile now. And I've always thought of Bodyguard as his best. When you consider he's the creator of the incredible Legion Of The Damned series, this is no faint praise.

What sets Bodyguard apart from most science-fiction is the book's heart. I can't remember the last time I read an action-driven story (sci-fi or other) with characters as well-drawn as these. I defy anyone who picks up the book not to feel pity for the hero, Max - a one-time efficient military man reduced to scrounging for living due to a head wound. And the novel is sprinkled throughout with little character moments which set the book apart.

Most science-fiction, being plot driven, doesn't bother with defining the characters. They are just there to move the story. Not so with Dietz and certainly not with Bodyguard. It is one of the best novels I've read in years and I can't recommend it highly enough. The same goes for the rest of Dietz's work especially Where The Ships Are and, of course, the Legion Of The Damned series. Bodyguard is a great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dietz's best ever! April 6 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This book combines Dietz's normal penchant for technology and action with a depth of character development that is rare in sci-fi books. I've never felt empathy anywhere near as strong while reading a sci-fi book as I did while I was reading bodyguard. If you're only gonna read one of Dietz's book this is the one to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Defenetly a page turner May 21 2000
By Carlos - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I read this book about a year ago, and I just had to put in my 1 cent worth. Since it's Mr. Dietz, I feel like I should comment. He's the KING. I still remember when I first read this book, I was not impressed at first, because it was written in first person, and I'm not a big fan of that type of storytelling. BOY WAS I WRONG. This book was GREAT, and funny too. Don't get me wrong, this is not a funny book, but it sure had its funny moments. The whole memory thing, the girl he's supposed to protect on her trip thing was pure genius. I had an idea about halfway through, but of course that's when Mr. Dietz wants you to suspect that. The part when he has to stop and play bouncer for awhile was GREAT, funny too. I actually ducked my head during a chase scene he has for fear I might get beheaded. You'll see if you read it. AND YOU MUST. The more people read his stuff, the more he puts out. I'm now looking for ANYTHING by Mr. William C. Dietz. I almost have everything, but not quite. Still lookin'. Keep up the good storytelling in the sci-fi world, Mr. Dietz.
