Product Description

Album Description

Bon Iver, the musical project of Justin Vernon that emerged to international acclaim in 2008 with 'For Emma, Forever Ago,' release the new self titled album on Jagjaguwar. Featuring 10 new songs penned by Vernon, the album' expands the group's sonic palette beyond the rustic acoustics of the debut into a lush landscape of silky electric guitars, beautifully intricate keys, and subtle horn and string sections while keeping the ghost choirs and densely layered vocals intact that Bon Iver has become so known for. Painstakingly crafted over three years, the album was recorded and mixed at April Base Studios, a former veterinarian's clinic in Fall Creek, WI, converted into a recording studio by Vernon and his brother. Bon Iver regulars Sean Carey, Mike Noyce and Matt McCaughan contributed vocals, drums and production.

Product Description

Bon Iver's Bon Iver is Justin Vernon returning to former haunts with a new spirit. The reprises are there - solitude, quietude, hope and desperation compressed - but always a rhythm arises, a pulse vivified by gratitude and grace notes. The winter, the legend, has faded to just that, and this is the new momentary present. The icicles have dropped, rising up again as grass.

5.0 out of 5 stars best album I've heard all year, Dec 28 2011

What a pleasant treat for one of the last new albums I've listened to all year to stand out as the best. Layered, nuanced, subtle and overwhelming all at once. A much more ambitious and challenging album than it's surface veneer initially reveals, this easily trumps anything Bon Iver has done to date by a giant step.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bon Iver - Best of the year, July 29 2011
This review is from: Bon Iver (Audio CD)
It was with great anticipation that I put on the latest from Mr. Vernon and I was not disappointed in the least. Not to say anything bad at all about the latest releases from Fleet Foxes, Death Cab, the Decemberists, Iron and Wine, or even Arcade Fire, but Bon Iver fits like an old glove yet shines like a new pearl all at the same time. Never feeling like a rehash of previous releases yet maintaining the quality of craftsmanship, intelligent lyricism, and oh so beautiful melodies and rhythms of his previous release, one doesn't feel jarred by the changes. Fresh, yet comfortable, this CD is in my regular rotation and with over 40 years of listening experience I can say with confidence that there will not be long intervals between listening to this recording. Not since Sufjan Stevens' Age of Adz have I been so thrilled with a CD this year.
