Not everyone will enjoy every story; even I didn't love all of them. The difference between this book and many others I have read, however, is that I didn't skip past any of the stories. I didn't roll my eyes and give up because of poor writing. I didn't slam the book shut out of irritation with bad spelling or grammar. I didn't have to swallow my disgust with poor word choice or blatantly unsafe (or even illegal) practices. What does this mean to you? It means that this is a bondage erotica book that everyone can enjoy. Intellectual word geeks won't find themselves turned off by bad writing, because it doesn't exist in this book. Those with more relaxed attitudes towards literature will also enjoy the high quality scenes painted from cover to cover. The quality of the writing was obviously well considered.
Finally, the last thing I'm going to say in this short and sweet review is that I am amazed at the diversity of the anthology. Points of view I had never even considered were explored and devoured in BBE11. I could FEEL how a top might have felt in the situation. I could sense a bottom's excitement and a newcomer's trepidation. I could put myself in many different shoes and because of that, I gained some incredible new perspectives. I enjoyed that, more than I expected.
When it comes down to the wire, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Rachel put together a stellar anthology that has something for nearly every bondage lover. I know that I've already dogeared a few of my favorite stories and will return to them many times for inspiration and sharing.
The totally hot "Relative Anonymity" by Emerald uses the power of trust and love to subtly yet smoothly open doors to erotic possibilities. What really strikes a chord for me is the unexpected (and very sexy) layering in the story. One level is all about the characters - and that's hot all on its own. Pulling the reader in to ask questions and release inhibitions - enticing the reader to really jump in and *enjoy* the story (and the rest of the stories in the book) - is sexy on a whole other level.
"The Ingenue" by Janine Ashbless takes you places you don't know you wanted to go - until you go there. Then it makes you question whether you want to go back, even while you know, deliciously, that you will.
Tenille Brown's "Reasoning" and Lisabet Sarai's "Wired" expand the ways and places people can use a new-found freedom from control to explore their dominant and submissive sides, even in (especially in?) very non-traditional ways.
"How the Little Mermaid Got Her Tail Back" by Andrea Dale (I purely love a fairy tale!) is a treat of unabashed exuberance that's meant to be relished. Bill Kte pi's modern interpretation of "The Lady and the Tiger" gives a new, intense, and very sexy buzz to a very old story. (That story will stay with me for a long time.) And Rachel Kramer Bussel's "Vegas Treat" shows that even the sexiest things happening in Vegas don't have to stay there.
Whether the words are smooth as silk ties or rough as rope, these sizzling hot stories of erotic bondage kept me tied to the page and enjoying every minute of it. Highly recommended.
This collection is full of ropes and cuffs and all of the things that make a bondage lover's head spin. If you enjoy even the idea of bondage, this collection will be a worthy investment. Be prepared to be seriously turned on.
One thing I would have loved was for some of the stories to be excerpts from larger works. That way I could track down even more of these great authors with characters I already know.
From cover to cover, there's a wide variety of kinky goodness which is sure to please everyone's palate. So pick up a copy and pick your poison!
