Grade 4 Up–The strange-looking Bone cousins visit Barrelhaven with their friends Thorn and Granma Ben. Phoney Bone, who usually causes trouble, does so again in these six chapters. He tries to swindle the villagers by fixing the annual Great Cow Race. While the race is underway, Fone Bone, who has wandered off to the woods, is chased by two giant rat creatures that have been after the Bones since their arrival in the valley, but they dont know why. Granma Ben knows something, though, and makes ominous references to a past war with the rat creatures and a treaty that is being tested. In addition to the comic elements, there are the usual fantasy elements of the fight between good and evil. Exciting and fun, the full-color art moves the story along at a rapid pace. The vocabulary is not difficult and the illustrations are clear. On one level, the book will appeal to fourth or fifth graders. However, it has a darker side that will appeal to teens. Reason for Reading: Next in the series.The story continues on from Vol. 1 with everyone arriving at the anticipated spring fair. Phoney Bone and Smiley Bone put their plan into action to scam the townspeople and Gran'ma Ben is ready to take on the cows in the annual cow race. Of course all sorts of shenanigans happen and nothing works out the way it should, well except for Gran'ma Ben. Thorn is having strange dreams about the past and the Rat Creatures are after Phoney Bone but with orders to kill the other two, if necessary. Not a lot to say except I'm loving the story and the characters. Fone Bone is still my favourite and his crush on Thorn is cute, though I haven't taken to her yet. I much prefer Gran'ma Ben as main female lead at this point. Looking forward to Vol. 3, then I will have to decide whether to buy the next volumes, as well, or start using the library.

Fone Bone and his cousins plan to return home after visiting the village of Barrelhaven with Thorn and Gran'ma Ben.But as usual Phoney' plan end ip being a disaster. The ennemy is getting closer as an army is forming. The adventures starts again as Bone and his friends will try to defend the valley.This second book really gets you into the action quickly and will open doors the the great Bone adventure. Once again this second book is funny and has great graphics. I read the book in to time and got into the third right away. This book ressembles a lot at the Lord of the Rings setting but is a lot more funny. The two rat creature will get you laughing instead of shivering!

This is one of the best Bone book's in the series. The colour version is just amazing. It totally blows the first Colour volume away in quality. EVERY page is full of detailed colour and it really just puts this book over the top. I wasent very impressed with The colour version of out from boneville. The quality wasent very consistant. Some pages almost seemed pixelated. This isnt the case in this second book.I totally recommend this. Bone is going to blow up. By next school year when all the kids get back in school, it is going to be the new craze. >>> The release date says August 1st, but it's in bookstores already, so I don't know what's up with that.
