Book Description

Aug 28 2012 Temperance Brennan
Kathy Reichs, #1 New York Times bestselling author and producer of the FOX televison hit Bones, is at her brilliant best in a riveting novel featuring forensic anthropologist Tempe Brennan—a story of infanticide, murder, and corruption, set in the high-stakes, high-danger world of diamond mining.

A woman calling herself Amy Roberts checks into a Montreal hospital complaining of uncontrolled bleeding. Doctors see evidence of a recent birth, but before they can act, Roberts disappears. Dispatched to the address she gave at the hospital, police discover bloody towels outside in a Dumpster. Fearing the worst, they call Temperance Brennan to investigate.

In a run-down apartment Tempe makes a ghastly discovery: the decomposing bodies of three infants. According to the landlord, a woman named Alma Rogers lives there. Then a man shows up looking for Alva Rodriguez. Are Amy Roberts, Alma Rogers, and Alva Rodriguez the same person? Did she kill her own babies? And where is she now?

Heading up the investigation is Tempe’s old flame, homicide detective Andrew Ryan. His counterpart from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is sergeant Ollie Hasty, who happens to have a little history with Tempe himself, which she regrets. This unlikely trio follows the woman’s trail, first to Edmonton and then to Yellowknife, a remote diamond-mining city deep in the Northwest Territories. What they find in Yellowknife is more sinister than they ever could have imagined.

Crackling with sexual tension, whip-smart dialogue, and the startling plot twists Reichs delivers so well, Bones Are Forever is the fifteenth thrilling novel in Reichs’s “cleverly plotted and expertly maintained series” (The New York Times Book Review). With the FOX series Bones in its eighth season and her popularity at its broadest ever, Kathy Reichs has reached new heights in suspenseful storytelling.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not her best effort. Sep 2 2012
Format:Hardcover
As much as I love Kathy Reichs, this book left me feeling cheated. I've read and re-read everything she's published and I kept thinking while reading this, ghost-writer. I won't spoil the ending, but this book had none of the usual twists and turns that pepper all her other novels; then it just ends in a blood bath. If you haven't read anything of Kathy Reichs yet, better to start with Bones to Ashes or Deja Dead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tempe Returns Feb 28 2013
By Lady Sam TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover
It's absolutely amazing that Kathy Reichs can describe the most obscure details and still make it sound interesting. And I don't mean a meander explanation of a dull surroundings but a detailes description of how a scull is comprised and the bones in the hand for example - very short, very interesting and you can really picture just what Tempe sees and works with. Amazing!
According to Kathy Reichs' notes at the end of the book where she explains how the story came about ... while she does base Tempe's adventures on her own work, of course, the books are all fiction. However, it is interesting to discover just how those mysteries come about and at put together, and, of course, the details of bodies and bones are based on the author's 'other job' - anthropology.
Our heroine also gets to travel again in this storyline which starts off with a dead baby and bones. As often happens, Tempe teams up with homicide detective Andrew Ryan who travels with her, but there is also another man involved that she was briefly involved with and who appears very inclined to renew their relationship ... something that causes a great deal of tension between the two men right from the start. And poor Tempe, of course, is right in the middle and soon giving up in trying to set the record straight, never mind intervening when both male egos call each other names. To the reader, however, this is a very amusing situtation, causing some light entertainment and laughter in-between some heart-breaking situations and discoveries. And, or course, Tempe is getting herself into some hairy situations along the way ...
This latest story in the 'Bones' series is yet another most intriguing, charismatic and enjoyable mystery that starts off with what seems obvious and ends on a completely different note, with completely and utterly unexpected twists and turns in-between. If you love mystery and suspense, this is an absolute must-read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wife Seems to Like It Oct 17 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
It's become an annual tradition to buy the latest Kathy Reichs book for my wife at Christmas. She didn't put the book down until she had it finished so I would say that it is another good book in the series.
