Product Description

Motivated by greed and sadism - or perhaps by poverty and boredom - star-crossed lovers Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow set out on a series of robberies through the American Southwest, many of which ended in murder. Frustrated by the suffocating poverty of the Great Depression, they were especially eager to target their "oppressors" - banks, store owners, and at times, the police. Their numerous crimes triggered an FBI manhunt, but their Robin-Hood ethos made them heroes in the eyes of many, establishing their place as legends of American folklore. This objective volume paints a realistic picture of often-romanticised subject matter, as it explores the motivation and impact of two of the most notorious criminals in U.S. history. Colourful narrative chapters explore the lives of Bonnie and Clyde in vivid detail, giving insight into the fear of a country gripped by Depression-era poverty, and the public's endless fascination with those that live on the outside of the law. Reference features such as a timeline and glossary round out the work, making this an ideal resource for students of American history and popular culture.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save Your Money, Jun 8 2007

This review is from: Bonnie and Clyde: A Biography (Hardcover)
The most galling aspect of this book is the fact that the author acknowledges some of the better books that have been written about Bonnie and Clyde, but apparently decided not to read any of those works, instead regurgitating suppositions and "facts" that authors such as John Neal Phillips have virtually debunked. If you are going to buy only one book about Bonnie and Clyde, this book should not be it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wast of money, Jun 18 2007
By David Otis - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Bonnie and Clyde: A Biography (Hardcover)
I purchased this book for $35. If I knew what was between the covers I would not have paid a dime. If there is anyone reading this who wants to know who B/C were, why they did what the did you will not find it in this book. This author is lasy. I could have written this book in a month.
In a word garbage

4.0 out of 5 stars original interviews make an interesting read, Dec 2 2011
By Studs Jerker - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Bonnie and Clyde: A Biography (Hardcover)
Original interviews make this an interesting read for fans of B and C ... nothing like the movie, which made heroes out of the couple
