About the Author
Lynsay Sands is the nationally bestselling author of the Argeneau/Rogue Hunter vampire series, as well as numerous historical novels and anthologies. She’s been writing stories since grade school and considers herself incredibly lucky to be able to make a career out of it. Her hope is that readers can get away from their everyday stress through her stories, and if there are occasional uncontrollable fits of laughter, that’s just a big bonus.

It's been nearly a year since the last book in the series - and that one had something of a disappointing ending as the resolve pretty much hinged on this story. Having now read it, I am still convinced that a better solution for The Renegade Hunter ... but there you go. Sometimes you just don't see the forest for the trees. This, however, is pretty much the only complaint I have where author Lynsay Sands is concerned - overall, I absolutely adore the Argeneau series and Lynsay's writing in general. She is essentially one of those authors who do not feel the need to 'sprinkle' their tales with vulgar and/or swear words but describing issues as they are - honest and up front.
The Armand story - after his son's problems were resolved in Renegade Hunter - covers his issues with the female gender that appears to be doomed the minute he marries and a child is born to them. This causes him to retract himself from society, even his family and children that were brought up by his sister-in-law(s) and live on his isolated farm(s). His brother Lucian, in search of a resolution to the crimes his nephew (Armand's oldest son) is accused of, organises an investigation and thus the story is under way. Naturally, nothing is ever as straight forward as it seems and the outcome may well surprise you. Once again, Lynsay produces a brilliant storyline full of twists and turns plus an 'injection' of her usual humour - although I must admit that I was not quite as taken and smitten with this story as I usually am. It was an interestic concept nonetheless and a story that needed to be told - I had been curious about Armand who had been mentioned before but never in great detail and am glad to now know what happened, both to him as well as his son. Well, there are still some names mentioned in the family tree that we have sort of heard about but not yet discovered fully - thus I do hope that this series will be on-going and look forward to yet another instalment in the Argeneau Saga!

Part of the popular Argeneau series, 'Born to Bite' picks up where 'The Renegade Hunter' left off. Armand Argeneau's wives were killed under suspicious circumstances. His brother Lucien, a Council member, has opened an investigation. Eshe d'Aureaus, a Council enforcer, goes undercover to investigate. But to her suprise, she finds she can't read Armand and he cannot read her either--they are intended life mates.
I really like the Argeneau series. Most of the books are laugh out loud funny with engaging characters and appealing storylines. They are great beach reads. It's best to read them in order, because many of the early characters show up later in the series. The series has two different publishers, so be sure to check the reading order on the author's website. I noticed each publisher only lists the books they published, rather than the entire series. After reading 'The Renegade Hunter' I had really looked forward to reading Armand's story. But I ended up being disappointed. This was one of my least favorite books in the series for a few reasons: - Generally I don't like books where the main characters jump into bed together without a good focus on relationship development, romantic tension and/or emotional connection beforehand. - Armand and Eshe weren't as well developed as most of the series other lead characters. I didn't really connect with them or care about their story. - The mystery was pretty weak. I almost immediately suspected the murderers. The storyline was too predictable. I usually really enjoy the books that the Argeneau family members play a prominent role. I'm hoping the next one we see more of Marguerite , Lucian, Bastian, Lissianna, Thomas, etc. It would be great to read books about Julian and Marguerite's son and Julian's nephews. They were great side characters in 'Vampire Interrupted' and I've been hoping for their happily ever afters. Fast-food variety of fiction,

Lynsay Sands gives us the latest in the Argeneau family with Born to Bite from Avon HarperCollins, a vampire paranormal romance set in Sands' native Canada. Since 1997, she's been penning best-sellers in the paranormal/historical romance field, injecting story with suspense, humor, and sex.
Sands wastes no time, introducing us to Armand Argeneau and Eshe D'Aureus, immortal, good-looking, and in dire need of a reason to take off each other's clothes. Sands provides us with the reason: Eshe is an Enforcer, a law officer in the vampire world, and she is there in an undercover capacity to investigate the deaths of Armand's previous wives. Armand is told Eshe needs a place to hide out for several weeks, and takes her in as a favor to his brother. However, in the Argeneau vampire world, vampires are known to find "life mates," an instant connection between two vampires that supersedes all other concerns, awakening their senses, their desires, and their animal appetites. While Eshe is determining if Armand is a cold-blooded killer, neither can resist their hot-blooded urges. Born to Bite is the fast-food variety of fiction, a guilty pleasure geared for the female demographic that can be gobbled down in seconds. Sands is noted for interspersing humor throughout her novels, but most attempts fall flat here. The main characters fail to stir a sense of urgency or emotional response in the reader, and the writing style is all action, lacking the attention to character detail that can make genre fiction so enjoyable when done well. Armand Argeneau has become a recluse after his wives and daughter-in-law perished under mysterious circumstances. But even worse is the fact that Armand is being considered a suspect by his fellow immortals, and an enforcer, Eshe d'Aureus, has been sent to investigate the matter. That Eshe is a gorgeous female that he can't telepathically read -- a potential lifemate -- doesn't help matters any. The last thing Armand needs is another woman dying because of her connection to him. Eshe has been through her own share of problems over the years. The daughter of a hero to the "good" vampires of the world, life has always been complicated for her, especially since losing her own lifemate centuries earlier. But while her attraction to Armand might complicate her investigation, Eshe is determined to see it through -- regardless of the fact that being around him for any length of time makes her lose her mind... This is the best book Lynsay Sands has written in awhile! I was excited to finally read the tale of the ill-fated Armand, whose poor luck with lifemates and wives has been alluded to in numerous previous books -- and in the Argeneau family tree which illustrates each. The first book about the beloved family of vampires since the "Hunter" series, "Born to Bite" really returns to what made the early novels great, and ups the ante a bit. Armand and Eshe are one of the better couples -- since both are already vampires, they are able to accept the circumstances of their relationship and lives without some of the side-effects that have been seen in the other "Argeneau" books. I think one of the best attributes of this particular book is the fact that it's really as much of a mystery as it is a romance, which suits the story and characters nicely. It is, after all, a Lynsay Sands book; readers can be fairly certain that they'll end up with a delightful and happy ending. What makes it really interesting is what happens on the way, and adding a centuries-old cold-case into the equation is a perfect addition to this book. One of the best "Argeneau" books in awhile - don't miss it, fans! |
