Product Description

From Amazon.co.uk

Born, the debut album by four conservatoire-trained young women has little to do with classical music. It's a gimmick, fusing a string quartet of frivolous femmes, spicy girls who all want to be "Posh", with dance beats, a big production mixing their violins, viola and cello with polished electronics. Add an enormous marketing budget and watch them top the charts. Taking themselves less than seriously--they played the James Bond theme at their Royal Albert Hall debut gig--pop "Victory" looks assured. This single bounces along with a dash of Rossini's Barber of Seville and a real sense of pop melodrama, in spirit little different from what guitarist John Williams did with his rather less photogenic band Sky in the late 1970s. What may surprise is that tracks such as the frenetic world-dance "Quixote" are penned by the film composer Magnus Fiennes, brother of the more famous Ralph and Joseph. "Winter" adds Jean Michel Jarre-style synth and voice-over to the ghost of Vivaldi and the infectious beat goes on, and on, and on. Sex sells, and Bond's success seems assured: this is a state-of-the-art product, but with Mike Batt of Wombles fame's bonus remix of "Victory" just don't expect it to be art. --Gary S Dalkin

Get the DVD Dec 18 2002

I'm not sure why I bought this CD? Oh right, I saw them in a commercial. And they were hot! It's amazing how the subconscious tricks you into buying something that is related to what you experience but has nothing to do with it at the same time. Get the DVD. I did. And I'm able to enjoy watching those girls shake their bottoms while playing classical music - the only reason why I bought the CD in the first place.

It's garbage I tell you! Nov 26 2002

If they wanted to be the Spice Girls they should have joined the Spice Girls. This is the worst garbage I have heard in decades. This is a collection of collisions between Yanni and Enigma - the victims were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. I am glad that I now have a new coaster for my coffee and a new jewel case for one that my daughter sat on in the car.

Bond proves that music has no limits Oct 24 2002
By Srechko
Format:Audio CD
Discovery of 'Bond' I call my own musical discovery of the year. I never heard anything similar to this music style except for Vanessa Mae, but she is solo violinist, and these girls are a string quartet and you can definitely hear the difference.

When I first heard their songs I can not express my excitement with such a unique style where beautiful string melodies meet catchy pop beats. A perfect match can be heard in 'Duel' one of my favourite songs on this album. Some songs carry so much energy and power. Crescendos and descrescendos in 'Kismet' (the best song here) give me goose bumps every time I hear it. 'Quixote' is another great song with powerful rhythm line and when listened loud it really moves you. 'Korobushko' brings the band closer to where they should spend more time (classical roots), 'Victory' - borrowing familiar piece from 'The Barber of Sevilla' - grows on you right away, but after listening to it for several times it gets a little bit boring and starts sounding a bit like a pop song from the charts. Most of other songs are very good as well, but I just never got to like 'Dalalai' (outdated beat and uninspired melody) and '1812' where electronic drums and beats are overused in making the song more dramatic than it should be.

Overall charming music in a beautiful package.

Interesting Idea
As the album's title suggests, something new is being born. Welcome to a not-quite-well-known kind of music - classical music with dance beats. Read more

Very Good First Album, Only A few Bad Points....
I am a big fan of classical/neo-classical music (I like Sarah Brightman, Opera Babes, and anything composed by Mozart). So, naturally, I was very happy when I discovered Bond. Read more

Great arrangements
I love this CD. I reminds me of Vanessa-Mae's debut CD. I love how the ladies re-create classical hits into electrifying numbers.

Great CD!
