Fortunately my first exposure to Lana Del Rey was her Summertime Sadness video, which is a work of art. Had it been Video Games, with its affected posing, it might have taken me longer to get into her.
There are a lot of Lana bashers out there, some of whom seem to see her as a manufactured artist, citing her both father's influence and the Team Lana who outwardly seem to have carefully formed her into a groomed personality. On the heels of the utterly pathetic "Friday" viral video by Rebecca Black, which was paid for by her mother, I can understand some people being a little gun shy about 'fake' artists, but there is nothing fake about Lana Del Rey.
Born To Die is a very classy, nuanced album, which brushes multiple genres, and I can only suggest that people give it a listen and make up their own minds. As with Paradise, I found this to be very refreshing. Just get in the car and crank it.
