After using the saw a couple times found I couldn't get the blade to snap in and hold. On closer look the blade holder had rotated 180 degrees and was facing backwards. Installed a new shaft and chuck assembly and it worked great, twice ! Inserted a blade a couple times and after removing the blade the chuck assembly is now facing backwards.
It's going in the garbage, at least the the carrying bag is good.

HASH(0x9e3337d4) out of 5 stars Don't buy this model, it also has been superceded March 24 2011
By Benjamin S. Chin - Published on
I bought this Bosch jigsaw from Lowe's for $99.00 when my cheap $25.00 generic died. I presumed buying an expensive jigsaw from Bosch would be more durable. I was wrong. The blade holding mechanism is fragile. After using it infrequently for about 6 weeks, the spring clamping mechanism no longer secure the blade confidently. Manually turning it tighter only works temporarily until the tool vibration loosen it again.

I explained the problem to the tool tech at Lowe's. As part of his examination of the tool, he tried to adjust the blake holding mechanism but can't as the mechanism has retreated deep into the tool's housing making it almost impossible to reach. When he finally reached it after squeezing his finger into the housing, he, too, found the blake clamping mechanism loose and weak. The entire frustrating experience is one more additional reason why this tool is garbage.

Having experienced the same aggravation as I had, the Lowe's tool tech gave me credit and allowed my trading to another tool. As to not take advantage of Lowe's excellent customer service, I purchased their top-of-the-line Bosch jigsaw, $135.00. After using it just twice, I found the blake holding mechanism to be superior and blade change easier than the $99 model.

Recommendation: avoid Bosch's cheap model. Buy the expensive model.

HASH(0x9e333bdc) out of 5 stars Had to fix within the first 30 days. Dec 21 2013

I've had Bosch jigsaws forever. It's all I used to use. I'll be looking for another brand. Motor bound up within a month. Blade tilt barely functional. Had to take it apart and shave the plastic impeller to keep it from binding and stopping the motor.

Horrible, horrible, horrible design. It works, but just barely, and only slightly better than a B n D.

Really disappointed in Bosch here.

I'm a home owner and former Bosch power tool employee. Not a contractor. I have put this saw next to my cordless 18 volt nicad Bosch jig saw and vibration is about the same. I have used this saw 3 times in the last month, I will use a jigsaw over circular saw in most cases and this saw did what I needed it to do. I would say it is as good as the 1587 (the Bosch saw that was the leader of the market for years minus the multiple bevels this only locks in at 45 left and right. )I paid $79 I can live with that . My cordless blue core gives me the other bevels I might need. I wish I had a Bosch 1590 the best jigsaw I've ever used. But this saw is nice for under a $100 if you will use every day look for a better saw but for diyer or a budget contractor this is a great saw. I would say it on par with 1587 I spent 9 years using as a Bosch employee minus the bevel options.

The product did everything I needed it to do. Seems to be built well. The soft carry case was a good extra included with the saw. Depending on what you're cutting, you will need to buy some extra blades since only one general purpose blade comes with it.

HASH(0x9e336138) out of 5 stars Good saw March 30 2012

Unlike the others reviewing the saw, I've had no problems with mine. I've used it extensively for a week now and the blade mechanism is fine.
