Power and Precision
The JS470E jig saw is top amp rated, having a prevailing 7.0 AMP motor. In addition, the no load SMP ranges from 500 up to 3,100 and has up to 60 hertz. It has the cutting capability on wood up to 5-7/8-inches, on aluminum up to 7/8-inch, and 3/8-inch on mild steel. The maximum bevel cut angle is 45 degrees. To ensure your desired speed is maintained, Bosch has developed the Constant Response Circuitry so that you never have to worry about inconsistencies in your performance and precision. In addition to its power, you can adjust between four different orbital-action settings, allowing you to find the right blade strokes for smooth to aggressive cuts.

User Comfort and Ease
This Bosch tool features a tool-less blade ejection lever so that you no longer have to touch hot blades when you want to eject them. Credited to the internal precision control, this machine’s plunging system is designed for low-vibration to enhance accuracy and extremely smooth operation. There is also an ambidextrous lock-on button for long stead cuts and user comfort. There is also an adjustable dust blower to keep the cutting line clear and a large, sturdy die-cast foot with steel insert.

I picked this up as a Christmas gift. The package arrived on time and was as advertised.

My initial impressions is this is a fine DIY jigsaw and is likely very good for that type of buyer. It seems well put together, although I only used it for a very short period of time so I did not get to test it fully. Sadly, the blade change mechanism on my unit failed (it came apart) on the first blade change. It appears an O-clip was improperly installed at the factory. Since it was outside Amazon's return period (30 days), I had it repaired under warranty by a local Bosch Service Center. It's working fine now.

The JS470e is a new model from Bosch, and sadly it is not the equal of the older 159x series. I personally own the 1591 (barrel grip version), and it's worked flawlessly for years. Many Bosch retailers advertise the JS470E as the 1590/1591 replacement, but it lacks a few key features including the precision cut system, tool-less footplate adjustment, and the one touch blade change system. The JS470e blade change system requires you to hold the tool and operate the release with one hand (lining the slots up) while you install the blade. On the 159x, you simply insert the blade till it clicks. Much easier.

If you are professional and are looking to buy new or replace your older Bosch jig saw, I would recommend waiting for the new JS572 (announced in Nov 2012). This model seems much more comparable to the venerable 159x series. Alternatively, the 1591 (barrel grip) model is still available. The D handle 1590 is much harder to come by as it's discontinued, but there is still some stock out there.

Update: I have since sold the JS470e and purchased one of the last remaining 1590EVSL models from a local retailer.

I had been searching for a jigsaw for a long time, this was used to replace an old Black & Decker that was a family hand-me-down. This saw lives up to all the hype. Yes you could spend more on a Festool, but why. This piece of kit is a dream to work with and has many well thought out features including the self-ejecting blade lever; not pulling or twisting. Pull the lever, whammy, it's out. the power of the tool is impressive, during my deck project it powered through pressure treated 2x10 like nothing, just remember to use the correct blade for the job. I am currently using on a metalworking project cutting sheet stainless steel and again, with the use of the correct blade, the saw works wonderfully. The nicest feature is the adjustable orbital action allowing for either an aggressive cut or a cut that mimics what could be done by hand. This is a great saw and is worth the money.

Well made and powerful. The jigsaw received rave reviews from many different woodworking magazines (such as finewoodworking). I have to say that I agree with them, cuts through thick lumber effortlessly and feels good on your hand with little vibration.
