Book Description

Oct. 30 2012
Meet young men with grand goals in these profiles of forty-six movers and shakers who made their mark before they turned twenty.

This engaging and thought-provoking collection of influential stories provides forty-six illustrated examples of strong, independent male role models, all of whom first impacted the world as teenagers or younger. This updated and expanded edition of Boys Who Rocked the World encompases a variety of achievements, interests, and backgrounds, from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Steve Jobs to Crazy Horse and Stephen King—each with his own incredible story of how he created life-changing opportunities for himself and the world. Personal aspirations from today’s young men are interspersed throughout the book, which also includes profiles of teenagers who are rocking the world right now—boys like John Collinson, the youngest person to climb the Seven Summits, and Alec Loorz, who founded the nonprofit organization Kids vs. Global Warming.
It’s never too soon to start making a difference, and this empowering collection of accomplished young men makes for ideal motivation.

I loved these stories to read to the class. Nice touch with how other young people "rocked the world". They were very inspirational and appealing to my students.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable book Sept. 23 2013

Format:Kindle Edition
I really enjoyed this book. I never liked history growing up and it might have been partly because my teachers were so boring and made history boring. But I really enjoyed this book. I learned things about these select men I had no clue. It was great to see such a wide variety of men with so many different backgrounds. While reading this book in the car one night, I found myself reading it out loud to my husband. I didn't know Stevie Wonder lost his eyesight as an newborn due to oxygen being pumped into his incubator. I didn't know King Tut became Pharaoh at the age of 9. This is worth the read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Option to TV Cartoon "role-models" Jan. 20 2013
By Scott Garrison - Published on
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
We saw this book at a book fair at our kids school, and immediately fell in love with it. Nowadays it's a bit hard to fight the TV culture a lot of little children have been exposed to. We have a standard of basic TV and only family programming/movies, once in a while. We do play educational video games, but not even weekly. Our 6 year old met with 5 1/2 - 6 1/2 year olds who could not relate to anything else but TV programs we had not watch, and he fell like an outcast as he didn't even fell interested in learning the non-sense his peers were into. It caused him some dissonance and we decided to get this book and he felt empowered. We did decide to let him get informed about the "parent imposed pop-culture of 5 - 7 year old TV programs" and his response was clearly amusing to us: "Oh, well, that's it. I thought it was something else. Thanks, now that I know what they're talking about, can we read the next story on this book, I'd love to be in a book like this one day."
Thanks Michelle Roehm McCann for compiling this amazing work.

Great intro to typical hero history. The Girls Who Rocked the World is a great complement to this book for boy and girls alike. Great short stories with a good message.
