2.0 out of 5 stars Blum's "Sex on the Brain" far superior, Dec 21 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Brain Sex: The Real Difference Between Men and Women (Paperback)
Deborah Blum's "Sex on the Brain" and LeVay's "The Sexual Brain" are both far superior discussions on the topic -- and both much more current. They lack the arrogant tone, bizarre notions about feminism, and denial of the great variations within the sexes that this tired little tome does. There are differences between the sexes, but there are also great differences between each woman and each man. There is a review on epinions.com that covers these points in more detail.

1.0 out of 5 stars this book started it all, Jun 15 2003

The book is just bad for society. What good does it do to
tell people they have one of four choices:female brain,
male brain,or if you're lucky enough,male with a female
brain, and female with a male brain.
Somewhere in this tangled mess of a book they forgot to
inform us that spatial and verbal brains are different
regardless of wether the person is a man or woman.
It's like playing gender Russian roulette. On one hand the
writers insist a person can be a female and have a male

brain,on the other hand a person can be male and have a
female brain.Since they find it highly unlikely for a female
to have a male brain, they tell you you're a sort of
cross over, you are a sort of odd person not following a
pattern or brain structure proper for your gender,or is it
sex?The word play in this book is of course confusing on
purpose,so the readers out there become so lost in word
play as to be unaware of how their brains are being washed
by this material.
I've read many books about "sex differences" lately. The
reason I'm doing this is to see how we are manipulated by
the media and written word in general.
Try reading this book and you will see how the writers
play with words and jump around.
The premise of the book is to fix people into opposing
groups,men and women.The agenda is clear.It's a money maker
because of the Western world obsession with "sex differences"
One thing which I found hilarous "sex is in the body" "gender is

the brain" and it seems as though if you don't have the right
body attached to the right brain, then you're a mismatch.
Written to confuse readers.
There are spatial brains and verbal brains and they can
reside in either a man or woman. What is very deceptive is
how the writers don't tell you about the different structures of
the verbal and spatial brain, and how they can be in either sex,
or is it gender?

1.0 out of 5 stars Of course sexes and races are different, Feb 22 2002

I can also prove scientifically that most of the third world countries are in the warm zone(tropics) and that most of the developed countries have people with white skin. And of course, that means "developed" means superior and "third world" means inferior. But would I be called a racist? Nowadays feminists are considered worse than racists I think, bcos of good living conditions in the West - white women want to get PhD and prove they need not take on the hardships that men do so that they can stay home and look after babies and go for shopping.
Essentially, that is what it means. I was almost laughing when I read that Ms Brown had to meet Mr Brown to write good poetry and likewise for Madame Curie. What do men scientists and poets do live in a bubble and have no contact with the outside world? And what would she say about Emily Dickinson then? An exceptional case bcos she is a woman? If it had been a man she would have cited it as an example of a "another male genius".
I guess social networks and who you interact and everything you learn in the womb and everything else does not matter since it is scientifically proven men and women are different? Why don;t we all send women to be Human Resource Managers and men to be scientists and get done with all this nonsense of equality for sexes? As far as the book statistics go I have read all the facts in most journals, magazines and if you had kept your eyes open and read you will find this scientific research is their for a long, long time. Oops I forgot I am a woman and hence I am not interested in science and want to read romance novels.
