Product Description

Arguably one of the most anticipated releases of 2009, "Brand New Eyes" is by far Paramore's most personal album. Produced by Grammy Award-winner Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Kid Rock, My Chemical Romance) and co-produced by the band, this is the long-awaited follow-up to 2007's platinum certified second album, "Riot!" The 11-track collection is unquestionably Paramore's best and brightest album to date, fit to burst with all the exuberant melodies, breathless hooks, and irrepressible energy that has made the Nashville-based band one of the most popular rock outfits in recent memory.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ignorance Is My New Best Friend, Oct 10 2009

This review is from: Brand New Eyes (Audio CD)
I had never heard Paramore before, at least not that I am aware of, but for the first time in a long time I heard a song on the radio and knew immediately that I had to buy the CD. Unfortunately I heard the single "Ignorance" a couple of months before the release, so I had to wait for the release of the album, but it was worth the wait. Paramore is an indie rock band from Tennessee which was formed in 2004. "Brand New Eyes" is Paramore's third album and was released on September 29th, 2009.

The album explodes with energy, drive, and powerful vocals, as the first two tracks "Careful" and "Ignorance" set a level which cannot be maintained, though the group certainly gives it a good try for the most part. The third piece, "Playing God", drops off a bit, but not too far, and "Brick by Boring Brick" moves another notch closer to the quality of the opening pieces. "Turn it Off" is a it more melodic, yet still has an underlying energy. "The Only Exception" is a ballad, one where the singer confronts her fear of being in love when faced with the reality that she is in love. A nice song, and it finishes off the first half of this album well.

"Feeling Sorry" starts off the second half of the album, and is a sign of the weaker nature of the second half. This trend is continued with "Looking Up", and "Where the Lines Overlap". In particular the transition from "Feeling Sorry" to "Looking Up" makes one feel like they are hearing the same song again, and that doesn't change until one is well into "Looking Up". "Misguided Ghosts" is a bit better and at least offers a more distinct feel than the previous pieces, but still leaves something to be desired. "All I Wanted" is a definite improvement to close the original album. The CD I have includes a bonus track called "Decode". This is a great track, as good as the first two pieces on the CD, and the CD really benefits from its inclusion.

Paramore is Hayley Williams (vocals), Josh Farro (guitar), Zac Farro (drums), Jeremy Davis (bass), and Taylor York (guitar). Hayley Williams and Josh Farro do the majority of the songwriting, with some contributions from Taylor York as well. A good portion of this album merits 5 stars, but there are some rather average pieces which bring the rating down to 4 stars for me. Now that my ignorance is gone, I will have to seek out other albums from this group.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best work to date!, April 19 2011

I can't recall the title of any of the songs on the first two albums, but I liked them enough to purchase this masterpiece. Great Rock&Roll, with loud guitars, drums a bangin', and one of the best voices in music providing the vocals. The ballads are also really well done, of course particularly, The Only Exception. The album is remarkably well balanced and exciting. My favorite rock album of the last decade was Fallen, by Evanescence, but this is definately a close second.

5.0 out of 5 stars ., Mar 4 2011

I am kind of out of their demographic with tastes that are a combination of mainstream and classic rock, but I love this stuff. I bought all of their albums including the live one with the DVD. Paramore is the best. I only buy albums where I like all the songs on it, and this is one of those. A really good buy. This review feels very inadequate in comparison to the others, but I don't care, listen to the samples no matter who you are; if you dig, buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, Sep 29 2009
By A. Boston - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Brand New Eyes (Audio CD)
I started out as a casual fan of Paramore a while back. Gradually, both albums grew on me, and now they're one of my top 5 favorite bands. I tend to think of myself as being a bit outside the usually demographic of Paramore fans, being in my late 20's, but I don't care! I've been anxiously awaiting the release of this album, and to be honest, it's one the first time in years that I've paid any attention to the 'official release date' from any band.

Paramore has catchy, rock driven tunes with smart, well written lyrics. Hayley Williams' vocals are stunning...for such a tiny person she sure has a set of powerhouse pipes. I actually had expected this album to be a lot darker then the 1st two albums, after hearing the first single, "Ignorance" and also knowing they were going thru some personal band turmoil while recording "brand new eyes". But besides "Ignorance", and some lyrics you can tell are clearly pointed at her bandmates in other songs, there is no huge addition of somberness compared with the other albums.

Paramore has progressed and grown, while still retaining their distinct Paramore sound. I also think the drummer, Zac Farro, was given a little more liberty in letting the drums really lead and set the tone on a few songs. There are a few quieter, pretty songs like "Misguided Ghosts" and "The Only Exception". Thinking back, I can't recall any slower jams on the other albums that are acoustic and lacking drums like "Misguided Ghosts", and that stood out for me. But don't take that the wrong way, they're both awesome songs, and show a different side of what Paramore can accomplish.

While writing this review I struggled to find something I didn't like about this album(trying to be well rounded and not just chock full of praise!), and I'm sorry, but I couldn't come up with anything, I'm a fan, not a critic.

On the whole, the album is amazing and I think will stand out as one of the year's best Rock/Alternative albums, just like "Riot!" did in 2007. A must have in my opinion.

Definitely check them out when they start touring in support of "brand new eyes". I caught them last summer opening for No Doubt, and it was an excellent show. I actually complained when the set was over that it wasn't long enough. Though I've loved No Doubt for over a decade, I was secretly there more to see Paramore for the first time and it made me excited for the upcoming fall tour.
