Intrigue, love, and murder, Oct 10 2003
This review is from: The Brass Ring (Paperback)
are the main elements of Mavis Applewaters's debut novel.
CC Calloway, a brash, beautiful cop with a scarred soul deserted Jamie Jameson twelve years ago. Or did she?
Mavis does a wonderful job of unfolding the story after a first chapter which makes CC appear almost too callous. Emotions run high.
Sexual tension also runs high in this story even after CC and Jamie make love. There are several well-written love scenes. The two are a well-matched pair in a well-crafted story.
Their hot/cold treatment of each other is easily understood as is their growing relationship. CC and Jamie have reason to be together. The mystery is a good one, just eerie enough to make you keep reading. Each murder brings new clues and new facets to their relationship. A sensual, page-turning diversion that's sure to win the author new fans.

Mavis Applewater has delievered a very interesting combination of romance and mystery. This is a true thriller, which doesn't ignore romance. I find it interesting that the only negaitive reviews come from the same person under different names. It wasn't hard to figure out since it is the very same review perhaps if this reviewer was as clever as the writers they have been bashing lately they would be more creative. What? didn't you think people would notice? I feel a need to mention this since this person seems very focused on one publishing house. Lesibian romance is so rare and it is nice to find stories that can entertain us. So why try and to take that away? Mavis gives us what we want, no pretense and lots of steamy scenes.
