5.0 out of 5 stars BRAVA, VALENTINE, Jan 13 2010

This review is from: Brava Valentine: A Novel (Hardcover)
Only Adriana Trigiani can write a story as eloquent and real as Brava, Valentine. In this sequel to `Very Valentine' the fun continues with the Roncalli and Angelini families who capture life in all its good and bad and brings together family, friends and lovers into the open and transports the reader into the pages and melts them into the words on the page.

In the opening Teodora, Valentine's 80-year-old beloved Grandmother, marries her long time love, Dominic under the beautiful Tuscan sun. Following the wedding nuptials, Teodora drops the bombshell on Valentine that she has named Alfred, Valentine's only brother, as her new partner in the Angelini Shoe Company. Distraught and overcome with shock, Valentine turns to the sexy tanner Gianluca for comfort but soon realizes that a long distance romance between Italy and Greenwich Village will never work out and returns home to Greenwich Village.

Once home, Valentine allows her best friend and confidante Gabriel Biondi to move in with her at the Shoe Company. Gabriel systematically begins to transform the home he's now sharing with Valentine into something resembling a home show photo shoot.

In the meantime, Valentine flies off to South America to meet a cousin she'd never met before who owns and operates a shoe factory. While there she uncovers a long buried family secret that once revealed threatens to rip apart the Roncalli family, a family already adept at the game of argument. No one family is as skilled at arguing as the Roncalli's. Is this secret going to tear this family apart once and for all?

This novel is like opening a box of chocolates then sitting down and savouring each and every single morsel. I can't wait for the next instalment!

Asit happens all Adriana Trigiani stories you get very involved with all the characters and the story. She has a wonderful way of weaving a story full of colour and feeling. The story develops around two countries, which gives it a lot of color. The only details I would like to mention is some details of Buenos Aires that sound about the Caribbean rather than Argentina.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brava, Trigiani, Feb 9 2010
By BeachReader - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Brava Valentine: A Novel (Hardcover)
I was so glad to be able to spend more time with Valentine Roncalli as she took
over the family's Angelini shoe business alongside her brother Alfred. Sparks
fly as these two, who are like oil and water, attempt to merge their very
different styles.

Encouraged by her former fiance, Bret, now a financier, Valentine decides to
embark on a new venture.

The book starts off with a wedding in Italy where Valentine re-encounters the
dashing Gianluca, but a long-distance romance seems fruitless. Returning to NY,
Valentine discovers that a branch of the family is in Buenos Aires and takes off
for there, where she has a couple of surprises waiting.

Trigiana is a clever writer, especially good with family scenes and
relationships. She accurately portrays the humor and pathos in families with
well-drawn characters who ring so true. And I love the historical info about Greenwich Village.

The book is full of life and love and is very appealing. Brava, Adriana Trigiani for another winner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brava Adriana!!!!!, Feb 9 2010

Outstanding Adriana!!!!

This new book is great and I totally loved it!!!! I love Val and I really relate to her (as a 40 year old single Italian American New York Girl!). This book was really a pleasure to read. It made me laugh and cry! And it brought back so many memories of my own childhood. I am listening to the Sinatra as I type! I loved the romantic interest in the book and was I surprised by how things developed during the story. And Gianluca getting off the plane in JFK!!! Say no more! I was head over heals!!!! I want to live on Perry Street and work in the shoe factory!!! I can't wait to read the next installment. Great series!!!! And I absolutely love Gabriel! He had me rolling! And her dad, Dutch too! And Val's relationship with her Gram is priceless. Adriana has brought back so many memories to me of my own Grandmother who I was lucky to have in my life for 32 years. Outstanding book!!!! Everyone should read this series!!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Boring, May 31 2010
By Becky "Becky" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Brava Valentine: A Novel (Hardcover)
I usually love anything by this particular author, but I just couldn't get into this book. I was bored and annoyed with the main character and with most of her family. I kept waiting for the story to pick up speed and get interesting, but it just didn't happen for me.
