Review

A delightful children's road movie reminiscent of The Incredible Journey, Disney's The Brave Little Toaster is an appropriately warm adventure tale. Using modern appliances as the protagonists, the story remains old-fashioned in its spirit even as it humorously depicts the clashes between nature and technology. The animation is simple and the story straightforward enough for the youngest of viewers, while adults can appreciate the unique characters and witty dialogue. Featuring the voices of Saturday Night Live veterans Jon Lovitz and Phil Hartman, the inventive personalities of the appliances and the constant movie references keep the story moving at a fast pace. In true Disney fashion, virtues such as friendship, cooperation, and resourcefulness are stressed, and the characters also face the despair of becoming obsolete in the high-tech world. Though The Brave Little Toaster found difficulty finding a distributor for its theatrical release, it remains one of the more charming classic quest stories. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, All Movie Guide

5.0étoiles sur 5 Quite possibly one of the most realistic movies ever made, which is funny cause this kind of movie wouldn't normally be realisti, Janv. 9 2009
This movie is very well-written and it's one that will probably appeal more to an older demographic as they'll actually understand what's going on. For kids... depends on the kid. If you have exposed your kids to the concept of death (In which this movie has at least 12 instances), they can handle it, but a kid who has been sheltered and told that everything realistic on TV is bad and doesn't might get scared. But come on, I think kids like getting scared more than they put on. They just say it's bad because parents tell them to think that way.

The plot is one of the most obscure but also original ideas out there, and the humor, while a lack of physical humor, is charming and mostly comes from the radio and lamp making wisecrack remarks. This is something I wanna go into:

I read a review for this from someone on amazon.com (The American site) who gave this movie a one because it apparently teaches kids that bickering and arguing is okay. HELLO! It's called realism! People argue all the time. It's normal. And come on, in the end, they settle their differences, so what kids will really learn from this movie is that you can argue but that doesn't mean you can't also get along when the time is right.

The songs are some of the most original also as they're not just different but also surprisingly dramatic. City of Light is an exception as it's like your typical family film song, but B-Movie talks of appliances getting killed in a horror movie-like fashion, Cutting Edge goes into the territory of old things being replaced by newer things and Worthless is what I deem the first melancholy song in any family film as it talks about how everything that lives will eventually die.

This movie is great because of its witty charm, original storyline, horrifyingly realistic ideas and very unique musical numbers. Sure, the animations are more of an above-average TV show quality, but animations aren't that important. You see that? Visuals don't make the movie! Characters and storyline make the movie!

5.0étoiles sur 5 One of my favourite movies!, Jui 6 2005

This review is from: Brave Little Toaster (VHS Tape)
This movie was one of my favourite ones when I was a young child, but even now I can still remember without being told that I watched it many, many times. I loved it and I don't think I'll ever forget it simply because it was such a great and memorable little movie.

4.0étoiles sur 5 favourite family dvd, Sep 8 2004
Par Un client
My son first saw Brave Little Toaster when he was about 3 years old. We, as was our custom, all watched it. It was love at first viewing. So many people have never heard of this movie and when you try to describe it, the get a look in their eyes that says, "OKKKKAAAAAYYY", what ever you say.
I took a copy to his day care for the other children to watch. They gave it back to me that afternoon saying that it was too scary for a lot of the children. Where was the imagination of this group?
It recently came up in discussion with my (now 20 year old son) and his girlfriend. Apparently it is her favourite movie. I guess that sense of homour and adventure is why they are so good for each other.
Our son is hoping to design computer games, after he graduates from college. He has said that this movie will be in his mind for either a game. Our favourite part is the "It's a B movie" part and this is the one he wants to expand on.
